8K-Sharpness from a 4K TV

The age of 4K TVs has barely begun, and yet we’re seeing 8K televisions pop up with increasing regularity. While the world isn’t quite ready for 8K yet, Sharp reckons that it has the solution to this.

Sharp’s new Premium XU series TV – the 80-inch LC-80XU930X, isn’t exactly new, but it’s made its way here following recent CES announcements of 8K televisions – perhaps not quite a coincidence.

But wait, this isn’t quite 8K – but Sharp is able to simulate the 8K experience thanks to its proprietary pixel splitting Quattro tech. If you get your hands on 8K content, bear in mind this TV won’t be able to play it. So what’s the point then, you ask?

The thing is, Sharp’s solution should be seen and judged in terms of a 4K benchmark; of more an advanced 4K solution, one that offers a remarkable step forward in image quality. The level of detail is uncannily good, rendering tiny text readable, and straight lines as straight as can they be.

Sharp uses a combination techniques to achieve this. It upscales content to 8K for better resolution, and enhances it further with an advanced direct LED backlight system to improve the contrast between black and white. Additionally, the LCD panel itself is made from a material that reduces reflection from external lights.

Well the proof is in the pudding, and Sharp definitely has delivered – watching 4K content on this TV is a real treat.

Available at S$22,999 at Gain City, Sungei Kadut outlet.
