By  |  0 Comments

999.99 (or Five Nines) restaurant serves up Modern European cuisine with a touch of Japanese.

For a luxurious dining experience that will not break the bank, newly opened restaurant Five Nines is your answer. Located along Keong Saik Road, the restaurant prides itself on serving premium ingredients from Europe and Japan under SGD 30.

Boasting an open kitchen concept, Five Nines offers a convivial atmosphere with counter seats along the kitchen where diners may watch the Chefs at work. Those looking for a more intimate setting may opt to sit at the tables set up along the side, while bigger groups may take interest in the bigger tables at the front and back.

Featuring a menu of small plate dishes made for sharing, Five Nines also offers a wide selection of wines and champagnes to pair with the food. Expect to find house wines hailing from Italy, France, Spain, Chile and Argentina going at SGD 10++ per glass, and starting at SGD 45++ for bottles. Diners may also opt for a five-course meal at just SGD 59++ per person.

Here are some of the dishes we have tried:

Cold Bites

Tuna and Peach Salad

For starters, a light and refreshing option would be the Tuna and Peach Salad. Featuring slices of fresh raw tuna sashimi, the dish is nicely complemented with the sweetness of peach slices and juicy cherry tomatoes, alongside unique savoury tomato jelly and juicy fish roe. Overall, the refreshing dish offers a unique combination of sweet and savoury flavours with no hint of fishiness from the tuna at all.

The Tuna and Peach Salad is priced at SGD 14++.

Burrata and Tomato Salad

Cheese lovers may delight in the Burrata and Tomato Salad, featuring a savoury mix of mozzarella cheese with tomato jelly, cherry tomatoes, sundried tomatoes and pesto sauce. The Burrata bears a similar appearance to that of a poached egg and unveils strings of melted cheese within. Because the Burrata isn’t too salty, it is nicely accompanied by savoury sundried tomatoes and tomato jelly; with sweet mandarin orange cubes adding an extra juicy burst with each bite. One thing about the Burrata is that its fluffy cream-based texture makes it most ideal for sharing – you wouldn’t want to start off with too heavy an appetiser after all.

Mains

Lobster Gratin

A must-try crowd favourite at Five Nines is the Lobster Gratin – featuring Boston-imported whole lobsters. Resting atop a bed of greens, the bright red lobster shell holds a generous portion of charred lobster meat mixed in a creamy bechamel sauce. The delicious concoction is further topped off with a blanket of crisp melted cheese that lends an added texture to the dish.

On top of that, the restaurant offers a daily promotion where the first 20 Lobster Gratin orders will go at just SGD 19++ each. Once the 20 portions run out, the dish will return to its regular pricing of SGD 29++.

Beef Tenderloin and Foie Gras

Another premium dish is the Beef Tenderloin & Foie Gras, featuring a grilled Australian beef tenderloin resting atop a bed of sauteed spinach. While the tenderloin was served medium-rare and was retained the juices within, it can be slightly tough to slice through. This is compensated for with a portion of delicate foie gras and truffle mushroom slices on the top. The foie gras was surprisingly not too overpowering and was served in just the right amount, while the truffle mushrooms adds a fragrant touch to the overall dish.

The Beef Tenderloin and Foie Gras is priced at SGD 29++.

Pastas & Risotto

Truffle Cream Risotto & Foie Gras

Another must-try dish at Five Nines, the Truffle Cream Risotto & Foie Gras makes for a heartwarming dish that pleases the tastes buds. Featuring premium Acquerello rice in a smooth, creamy broth, the fragrance from the truffle takes the flavours of this dish to new heights. The delicate buttery texture of the foie gras allows it to be easily stirred into the risotto, packing even more flavour into every bite. For something warm and comforting after a long day, be sure to try the Truffle Cream Risotto & Foie Gras.

To add a sweet conclusion to your meal, Five Nines also offers a range of desserts on their menu. This includes their Peach Melba (SGD 9++) and Pistachio & Chocolate Cake (SGD 9++). For those who prefer something cream-based, the Peach Melba features a scoop of rose flavoured gelato and poached peaches (that lend a carbonated sensation); drizzled in strawberry sauce.

For something with a rich nutty flavour, the Pistachio & Chocolate Cake features pistachio flavoured ice cream alongside a rich, fudgy pistachio flavoured sponge cake, sprinkled with a dash of cinnamon powder, spices and a hint of pineapple jam. Five Nines would make an ideal venue for a romantic dinner or simply to catch up with friends over an affordable yet luxurious meal.
