Free Mammogram Screenings with #My1stMammo by 365 Cancer Prevention Society
Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in Singapore, accounting for nearly 30 percent of all female cancers. Early detection is crucial, and the 365 Cancer Prevention Society, in partnership with Icon Cancer Centre, is making it easier for women to take charge of their breast health with the return of their #My1stMammo campaign.
From now until 31 March 2025, eligible women aged 40 and above with a blue/orange CHAS card or Public Assistance (PA) card can register for free mammogram screenings. The campaign specifically targets women who haven’t had a mammogram in the last 12 months (for those aged 40-49) or the last 24 months (for those aged 50 and above). However, it excludes those who are pregnant, have breast implants, or are undergoing breast cancer treatment.
Why Early Detection Matters
Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women in Singapore, with over 13,000 cases diagnosed between 2018 and 2022. The disease often shows no symptoms in its early stages, making regular mammograms vital for early detection. Mammograms use low-dose X-rays to detect cancerous growths before they become physically noticeable. Early diagnosis significantly improves survival rates, with a 99 percent five-year survival rate for Stage 0 or 1 diagnoses, compared to just 30 percent for advanced stages.
Know the Signs and Risk Factors
All women are at risk of breast cancer, which typically begins in the ducts or lobules before spreading to other parts of the body. Warning signs include persistent lumps or thickening in the breast or axilla, bloody nipple discharge, or changes in the size, shape, color, or appearance of the breast and nipple. Risk factors include a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, hormone replacement therapy, early onset of menstruation, and certain breast diseases.
Breast cancer continues to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Singapore, with more than 2,000 women diagnosed each year. Mammograms can detect cancer tissues in their early stages before physical symptoms appear. We encourage all eligible women to register for the free breast cancer screening and take an active step towards protecting their health.
