Garmin’s fēnix 5 Offers Multisport Features for Multiple Wrist Sizes

By  |  0 Comments

It’s often Hobson’s choice when you want to buy a top-of-the-line multisport watch – there are only a few brands to consider and watch sizes are limited too.

However, Garmin’s new fēnix 5 watches will launch here in three sizes – 42 mm, 47 mm and 51 mm – and that’s good news if you’re shopping for one right now.

The fēnix 5 series is designed to offer multisport features while still being able to match your daily and active wear (i.e. fashionable). Effectively there are more options for our smaller Asian wrists, so you don’t have to compromise between features and fit, which is usually the case.

Features

Features

Here’s a quick rundown of what the fēnix 5 series’ watches can do:

  • Full multisport features including running, hiking, swimming and biking
  • Daily activity tracking
  • Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate technology for 24/7 heart rate monitoring (except swimming)
  • Built-in navigation (3-axis compass, gyroscope, barometric altimeter, GPS and GLONASS support)
  • Performance widget shows training status, training load and more
  • Up to 100 meters water resistance
  • UltraTrac power saver mode for extended battery life
  • Calls, text and app notifications when connected to supported smartphones
  • Garmin Connect IQ Store support to customise watch with apps, widgets, data fields and watch faces
  • Face-It app compatibility to use photo as watch face

Also, the Sapphire editions also offer a scratch-resistant lens for rugged use. They also get Wi-Fi support built-in so your watch can make automatic uploads (when within range) of your stats to Garmin Connect so you can monitor and analyse your workouts and activities.

5sfēnix 5S
Designed with female users in mind, the 42mm fēnix 5S is a sleek, smaller-sized watch that’s suitable for petite wrists. The fēnix 5S has up to nine days of battery life in smartwatch mode, up to 14 hours in GPS mode and up to 40 hours in UltraTrac battery saver mode.

5fēnix 5
The ‘regular’-sized 47mm fēnix 5 sports a new industrial-looking design, but is relatively compact for what it does. Due to its larger shell, the fēnix 5 gets a bigger battery and can get up to two weeks of battery life in smartwatch mode, 24 hours in GPS mode and up to 75 hours in UltraTrac battery saver mode.

fēnix 5X
5xThe massive fēnix 5X measures at 51mm and is loaded with topographic maps, routable cycling maps, over 40,000 golf courses around the world and other navigation features like Round Trip Run and Round Trip Ride. The fēnix 5X is capable of suggesting appropriate courses to run as well as displaying at-a-glance guidance cues for upcoming turns as you run.

That’s not all. The Around Me map mode provides different points of interest, waypoints and other map objects within your range. In addition, you can see data overlays on mapping screens, and view key information without switching screens during an activity. The fēnix 5X can get up to 12 days of battery life in smartwatch mode, 20 hours in GPS mode and up to 50 hours in UltraTrac battery saver mode.
