It’s about time to stop going to bed past midnight and really get a good night’s sleep.

Lingering between the sheets late in the morning can be a satisfying feeling, especially if you don’t need to wake up early for the day. However, this shouldn’t give you a license to sleep late every single time.

Did you know that not getting enough sleep has side effects once you grow older? If you’re not aware of the harmful effects, here are some of the reasons why getting enough rest and sleep should do you good:

Loss of Concentration

Sleeping way past your bedtime causes you to deliver poor work results and impacts your mood, making it difficult for you to focus. It’s always better to live according to how your body is designed—give it ample time to rest and rejuvenate if you want it to function in its best condition the next day.

Tension Headaches

Did you know that sleeping late affects the brain the most? If you continue to experience tension headaches, you may want to start fixing your sleeping schedule and get enough rest for a change.

Stress

Are you feeling stressed lately? Have you had enough time to take a day off, loosen up and walk away from your work load for just a short period of time? Stress symptoms are usually influenced by the amount of sleep you get regularly. You must do something about this before you start resorting to sleeping pills. These pills can further increase your stress levels.

Cardiovascular Risks

Not having enough sleep increases your chances of getting cardiovascular disease as you age. According to research, individuals who get seven or less hours of sleep per night have a two or three-fold increase in risk of cardiovascular events including stroke, heart attack and myocardial infarction.

There are other more reasons why sleep can be harmful to your health. Don’t wait until your body suffers the consequence of your poor sleeping habits. Today is your chance to make a change and do yourself a favor. Organize your time, cut off all gadgets and go to bed early and at a consistent timing.
