The International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC) has conducted an extensive study on the dietary preferences of Generation Z in Latin America, focusing on their consumption of nuts and dried fruits.

Nuts

Key Findings

The study surveyed 2000 respondents across Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico, revealing high awareness of nuts, especially peanuts (99 percent), almonds (97 percent), and walnuts (94 percent). Dried fruits like raisins (96 percent) and prunes (88 percent) are also well-known but less so.

  • Most Consumed Nuts: Peanuts, almonds, and walnuts lead the list, followed by cashews, hazelnuts, and pistachios.
  • Most Consumed Dried Fruits: Raisins, dried cranberries, and prunes are the top choices.

Snacking Habits

Known as the “snacking generation,” 96 percent of Gen Z reported snacking between meals, with yogurt, dairy products, and fresh fruits being common choices. While nuts and dried fruits are popular, they rank lower in preference compared to other snacks.

Drivers and Barriers

Gen Z values nuts and dried fruits for their health benefits, including digestive health, heart health, and immune system support. However, taste, price, and lack of information are cited as barriers to regular consumption.

NutTunes Campaign

To boost the appeal of nuts and dried fruits, INC has launched the NutTunes campaign. This innovative campaign features captivating videos with 3D animation and AI technology, where nuts and dried fruits come to life and sing about their health benefits. The campaign will be promoted on social media, with tailored content for each market. Additionally, “The NutTunes” playlist is available on Spotify, providing an engaging way to connect with the audience.

Understanding Gen Z’s preferences and attitudes is essential for businesses.

By addressing barriers and emphasizing consumption drivers, INC aims to support healthier dietary choices through nut and dried fruit consumption among Gen Z in Latin America.
