Gardens by the Bay announces an exciting line-up of activities for January and February.

Wondering what to do with your family from now to February? With notable occasions such as the upcoming Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day, check out what Gardens by the Bay has in store for you this month and the next.

“DAHLIA DREAMS” FLORAL DISPLAY

This Lunar New Year, Gardens by the Bay ushers in the Year of the Monkey with a floral display that draws inspiration from the Chinese classical tale “Journey to the West” (西游记).

Take a trip down to the Flower Dome and be awed by the stunning landscape of dahlias, begonias and other blooms against the backdrop of a lofty seven-metre-tall mountain. Look out for monkey-shaped topiaries as you stroll through a cavern with unexpected surprises and appreciate the various elements of Chinese arts and culture infuse in this floral display.

“Dahlia Dreams” is also the first in a series of music-themed floral displays at Gardens by the Bay this year. Watch the floral displays come to life with the energetic beats of Taiko drums, the retro tunes of the jukebox, and the pulsating rhythm of tribal dance.

“DAHLIA DREAMS” GARDEN TRAIL

As part of the “Dahlia Dreams” floral display, guests may choose to embark on a Journey to the West with the “Dahlia Dreams” Garden Trail. Explore the “Flowers and Fruit Mountain” where the legendary Monkey King was born and enter the “Water Curtain Cave” as described in the novel. Guests may also pick up interesting information about the colourful blooms of dahlias and begonias during the Garden Trail.

ASK ME! – “DAHLIA DREAMS” FLORAL DISPLAY

Those who prefer a guided tour through the “Dahlia Dreams” Floral Display may opt to do so on selected dates.

Display Interpreters will guide you through the “Flowers and Fruit Mountain” and will share fascinating information about the colourful blooms of dahlias and begonias.

To participate, simply gather at the “Ask Me!” poster near the Flower Field. Tours will begin when a group of five or more visitors are assembled.

SPRING SURPRISE

For something a little different this Chinese New Year, why not celebrate at Gardens by the Bay? With a range of festive highlights including traditional craft activities, a cheeky Monkey God mascot, and a Lion Dance Medley, guests are in for some family fun his Chinese New Year.

Craft Activities

Guests can try their hand at traditional spring crafts such as Chinese Calligraphy, Paper Cutting and Chinese Knotting. Guests may also take their creations home to share with family and friends.

Monkey King Mascot

Keep an eye out for the cheeky Monkey King, who will be making his appearance on selected weekends at the Flower Dome.

Lion Dance Medley

If you like watching different styles of lion dances, be sure not to miss the Lion Dance Medley this 13 February at the Supertree Grove. Catch a medley of original choreography and amazing stunts, and even the lesser-seen northern lion (北狮) dance!

Singapore Chinese Orchestra

Enjoy a relaxing evening with your loved ones to appreciate some majestic, spring-themed orchestral pieces performed by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra.

Get in touch with your roots this Chinese New Year with traditional cultural performances such as Face Changing, Drum Performances, and Tea Art at the Supertree Grove.

Gardens by the Bay celebrates Valentine’s Day and the last day of the Lunar New Year (元宵节) with a series of events that encourages visitors to spend time with family and loved ones. Spread across two consecutive weeks, catch romantic movies under the stars with loved ones, be serenaded by local artistes, or be entertained by comedic theatre group The Handlebards.

Mid-Summer Night’s Dream by The HandleBards

Catch a special edition of Shakespeare’s A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream performed by The HandleBards, a comedic theatre group from the UK. Performing at Gardens by the Bay for the very first time, the troupe is sure to brighten your day!

Movie Screening: Romeo & Juliet (1996)

Yummi-licious Tarts For Spring

This season, unleash the inner baker in you with a hands-on pineapple tart workshop at the Gardens. A perennial favourite for Chinese New Year celebrations, create your own bounty of pineapple goodness and pick up interesting trivia about the popular fruit to share with friends and family during your gatherings.
