Planning a getaway? Here’s a family-friendly resort in Langkawi you can consider.

Known for its thriving tourism industry, there’s little wonder why Langkawi is a great destination for a short getaway. Situated along the west coast of Malaysia, Langkawi is known for its pristine beaches, duty-free shopping, diving opportunities and wildlife. With that in mind, here’s a review of one of its award-winning resorts – Langkawi Lagoon Resort.

Conveniently located just 3.5-kilometres away from Langkawi International Airport, Langkawi Lagoon Resort offers a remarkable view of the Andaman Sea and picturesque rolling hills. The resort offers three types of accommodations – the Beach Front Hotel, the Sea Village, and the Ombak Villa. The Beach Front Hotel offers Deluxe Rooms and Junior Suites with the option of a view of the hill or the sea. The Sea Village, on the other hand, is built on stilts above the Andaman Sea and offers a range of suites. Last but not least, the Ombak Villa consists of the Ombak Suite, Seroja Suite and the spacious Villa Seri Kasturi – all of which exude a perfect blend of traditional Malay architecture and contemporary interiors.

The Active Age was invited to stay at the Beach Front Hotel’s Deluxe Hill View room, which features a 387 square foot space with full room amenities and kitchenette facilities provided. The Deluxe room’s rustic interiors, dimmed lights and wooden furniture gives it a cosy, homely ambience.

Prior entering the hotel room, you’ll find a kitchenette complete with a stove and sink that’s probably useful if you plan to fix a quick meal yourself in the middle of the night. An electric kettle, cups, as well as coffee and tea sachets are provided too. If you’d rather skip the hassle of whipping up something on your own, there’s always the 24-hour in-room service.

The bathroom is relatively spacious and comes with a shower cubicle, hair dryer, shaving point and toiletries. If you expect a bit more for shower facilities such as an additional bathtub, you might want to upgrade to the resort’s Junior Suite instead. The Deluxe Room’s bathroom will suffice for a single traveller or for couples who aren’t too fussy about shower facilities.

The room comes with a king-sized bed that’s fairly comfortable.

A flat screen LED television with cable is provided alongside a dressing table alongside a basket of fruits and basic cutlery. Though not exactly the most comfortable spot, do catch a glimpse of the Mat Chinchang Mountain when you lounge on the Pangkin (day bed) by the window.

The Deluxe Hill View room may not be the highest-end room in this resort, but it offers a cosy and comfortable space to relax in after a long day of activity. One night at the Deluxe Hill View room will cost you RM 750, while the Sea View room will cost you an additional RM 50.

If you’re looking to unwind over some mocktails, there’s always the Mentari Lounge at the Beach Front Hotel’s lobby. Guests can also enjoy happy hour and savour light snacks by the pool at the resort’s Sunken Pool Bar. For a romantic spot by the beach, do check out the Laguna Bistro which is also located at the Beach Front Hotel. Over at the Ombak Villa side, there’s the Amai Bistro where guests can enjoy a panoramic view of the sun setting over the ocean while sipping on a mocktail.

As for recreational activities, there’s jet-skiing, canoeing, windsurfing, banana boat rides and many more at the beach. You can also arrange for other external activities such as mangrove tours or island-hopping at the Guest Service Centre.

Overall, the resort is an all-encompassing one offering facilities that cater to guests’ every need. It also makes for a great family-friendly accommodation with its various facilities designed specially for children such as a playground and a wading pool.
