We are building ACTIVELY as a Hyper-Local omni-channel super app, allowing users to explore the world in a fun and engaging way—earning rewards while connecting with nearby people through text, images, and 3D objects on the map. the Active Age (AA): What inspired Life Festa to develop ACTIVELY, and how does it align with your broader vision for gamified fitness platforms?
Jae Chan Shin (JCS): ACTIVELY was born out of Life Festa’s commitment to blending technology, fitness, and community into a seamless experience. Our vision was to create a platform that not only promotes physical activity but also rewards users for engaging with their surroundings and connecting with others. By incorporating gamification, such as immersive maps and engaging visuals, we aim to make fitness more enjoyable and interactive. ACTIVELY aligns perfectly with our mission to build a hyper-local, omni-channel super app that transforms daily life into an adventure while encouraging a healthier lifestyle.
AA: Could you elaborate on how ACTIVELY’s features, such as the immersive map and rewards system, are designed to engage and motivate users?
JCS: The immersive map is one of ACTIVELY’s standout features, guiding users through iconic landmarks like the Merlion, Sentosa Island, and Botanic Gardens. It provides a visually captivating experience, allowing users to earn stickers and share achievements, which makes every step rewarding. Additionally, our rewards system motivates users by offering tangible benefits such as e-gifts redeemable at local merchants. Together, these features create a sense of accomplishment, turning fitness into a fun and sustainable habit.
AA: Why was Singapore selected as the first international market for ACTIVELY, and how do you envision the app fitting into the city’s fitness culture?
JCS: Singapore’s compact geography, fitness-conscious population, and excellent urban infrastructure make it an ideal launchpad for ACTIVELY. Ranked as the fifth most walkable city in Asia, Singapore offers iconic attractions and extensive walkable spaces that align seamlessly with our platform’s features. Furthermore, the city’s strong national health initiatives and thriving fitness culture ensure ACTIVELY resonates with the local audience. Launching in Singapore also provides us with valuable insights to refine our platform as we expand into other markets.
AA: How does your partnership with JCDecaux make use of augmented reality (AR) in this collaboration?
JCS: Our partnership with JCDecaux leverages AR to create a dynamic and engaging brand experience for users. By combining AR with gamified elements, such as interactive games and visual storytelling, we’ve redefined how users interact with advertisements and their environment. This collaboration not only enhances user engagement but also provides a unique way for brands to connect with their audience through innovative, technology-driven solutions.
AA: How are local merchants integrated into the platform, and what opportunities does ACTIVELY create for them to engage with users?
JCS: Local merchants play a crucial role in ACTIVELY’s ecosystem. By partnering with popular businesses such as F&B outlets and retail stores, users are incentivised and motivated to integrate the app in their daily fitness routine.
Merchants such as Tangs, Guardian and Swensens feature their logos prominently in our immersive map, enhancing their visibility and engage users by offering exclusive deals and rewards that align with their fitness journeys.
AA: What are your key priorities for ACTIVELY’s future expansion into Southeast Asia, and are there plans to adapt the platform to different markets?
JCS: Our primary focus is first solidifying ACTIVELY’s presence in Singapore to establish a strong foundation for future expansion. Next, we aim to enter key Southeast Asian markets like Thailand and Vietnam, followed by Canada and Australia to tap into Western audiences. We plan to adapt the platform to each region’s cultural and lifestyle nuances by incorporating localised features, attractions, and partnerships. Users experience is our top priority, and we are committed to listen to user feedback in every market to meet diverse needs while maintaining its core essence of gamified fitness and rewards.
