M1 To Launch Integrated Smart Activity Monitoring Service For Seniors

M1 Limited has just announced an integrated Smart Activity Monitoring Service to support independent seniors living alone.

As Singapore’s population ages, the proportion of seniors aged 65 and above living alone has grown sharply, rising from 7.5% in 2000, to 11.9% in 2014. These seniors are at risk of falls or illness that, if not treated promptly, could potentially lead to further complications.

Technology such as activity monitoring, has been seen as one way to support seniors who want to continue to live independently and safely, in their own homes. Through activity monitoring, caregivers will be able to access real time information to help them monitor vulnerable seniors in a less intrusive manner. Many modern solutions also offer customisable alerts, to notify authorised recipients if no activity has been detected past a pre-set period of time or if the activity is occurring at abnormal intervals, to prompt the caregiver to check on the senior or activate emergency services.

To benefit even more seniors, M1 has partnered with activity monitoring solution providers to launch an integrated activity monitoring service, offering caregivers a one-stop solution including equipment installation, connectivity, customer support, and making the service affordable through a subscription model.

Authorised recipients will be able to access activity information through a desktop or mobile Internet browser. The caregiver can also set customisable alerts, for instance, if the toilet or kitchen sensor has not been triggered or being activated very frequently, and also the option to pair it with video camera for real time monitoring. Data analytics tools built into the M1 Smart Activity Monitoring Service will also help caregivers identify trends and patterns in the data collected, so they can make better sense of this information.

Besides activity sensors, door sensors can also be installed to alert the caregiver if a senior exits the home, and when integrated with M1’s VSafe, lets the caregiver know where the senior in question is. Progressively, the solution will support other sensors including smoke, gas, temperature sensors, and wearable “fall” sensors.

The M1 Smart Activity Monitoring Service is priced at S$14.66 per month, inclusive of one motion sensor, installation fees, and access to the portal where the caregiver can access both real time and historical activity information. Additional motion sensors are available at S$103.80 per sensor. A one-time sign-up and installation fee of S$214 applies. The M1 Smart Activity Monitoring Service is open to M1 fibre customers and it will be available for sign-up from 10 March 2016 at M1’s IT Show booth at Suntec Convention Centre Hall 4, as well as at any M1 Shop outlet.
