Mitzo Restaurant & Bar redefines ‘Yum Cha’ with new weekend brunch

Mitzo Restaurant & Bar launches new contemporary Cantonese weekend brunch menu alongside making your own cocktails

‘Yum Cha’ (literally ‘to drink tea’) is a Southern Chinese style cultural cuisine with tea and small ‘dim sum’ dishes. These ‘dim sum’ tends to be steamed, fried or baked and a mix of both savoury and sweet dishes. ‘Yum Cha’ can be taken either in the morning or as an afternoon tea.

Mitzo Restaurant & Bar looks to redefine the elements of ‘yum cha’ by giving a touch of the contemporary to the eating experience. Their new weekend brunch is served in nicely modern-sophisticated restaurant setting and with a ‘do-it-yourself’ cocktail station.

The new menu includes over 40 delectable authentic Cantonese dishes, served over six courses – Roasts, Dim Sum, Appetiser or Soup, Main Course, Rice, Noodles or Congee, and Desserts.

Several of Mitzo’s signature dishes made it on the menu including the Mitzo special barbecued pork, as well as the chef’s take on Kong Bak Pao (Chinese pork sliders) – the Crispy pork belly bun. Guests are served tableside, where the chef carves up slices of succulent crispy pork belly to wrap in piping hot steamed buns.

There are several other ‘new to the menu’ but ‘must-try’ dishes including the Wasabi-infused baked fish, Crispy prawns with spicy mango, Stir-fried osmanthus chicken, Pan-fried ribeye in wasabi and Korean chilli. The double boiled soup is also a crowd-pleaser.

Putting their own spin to the accompaniment of Chinese tea with the dishes, Mitzo’s Cocktail Atelier has set up a DIY cocktail station where diners get to make their own drinks. Helpful bartenders hover around cocktail newbies and point out diner-friendly props (read: arrows pointing to which ingredients to add to cocktail in which order) to help with the drink creation process.

There are three different cocktail recipes created to complement the meal and these are refreshed by the bartender on a regular basis.

For August, Mitzo is featuring the Scented Twister, a cognac-infused jasmine tea base shaken with homemade goji berry syrup and lemon juice topped with aromatic guava soda for a well balanced scented cocktail, the Berry Delight made with vodka-infused mixed flower tea, shaken with apple rose syrup and lemon juice, topped with fruity cranberry soda for a refreshing classic cocktail with an Asian twist, and the Brilliant Stardust with a gin infused chrysanthemum tea base, ginger syrup and lemon juice, a hint of rose water, topped with aromatic apple soda for a refreshing feel.

Their new Cantonese weekend brunch titled “Yum Cha Redefined” is available every Saturday, Sunday and on public holidays from 11.30am to 2.30pm for SGD 68++ and SGD 118++ (free flow cocktails and other alcoholic drinks). Mitzo Restaurant & Bar is located at the Grand Park Hotel Orchard, opposite Paragon Shopping Centre.
