Are you having difficulty swallowing foods with a tinge of pain, itchiness and irritation in your throat? These signs are usually starting symptoms of a sore throat. You may not feel the pain in the beginning, but when it starts to swell, it’s just really difficult not to pay attention to it. Fortunately, you can do something about this pain. Here are some tips to get you started:

Saltwater Gargle

This easy remedy helps reduce the swelling in the throat as it loosens mucus and help drain the bacteria. You may want to do this several times a day as you dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in one cup of water. In case the water is too salty for you, feel free adding a little bit of honey just to change the taste.

Honey

Honey is very effective when it comes to taming nighttime coughs as it is also a common remedy for sore throats. You can add honey to your tea or make honey water drink to cure sore throat eventually.

Lemon Water

Just like honey, lemon can do wonders when it comes to cough and sore throat. Simply mix a teaspoon of lemon juice in a cup of water to help shrink the swollen throat tissue that will eventually drive the viruses and bacteria away.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Salt

You can remove the germs in your throat by creating an acidic coating. To achieve this, dissolve a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water. Gargle several times a day. You can also add honey for a gentler treatment and gargle every four hours.

Hot Steam

Steam can ease your sore throat as it helps you breathe freely and minimises congestion. You can do this by boiling a pot of water. Once it boils, pour the hot water into a container and create a makeshift tent as you inhale the steam bit by bit. You can always add drops of your favorite oil to make it more soothing.

Hopefully by trying out these tips, you can get rid of sore throat without resorting to the usual cough drops and medications!
