New Duty Free System In Japan

By  |  0 Comments

Save more with Japan’s new duty free system which will raise the number of items eligible for tax exemption from 1 October 2014 onwards.

Planning a trip for the end of the year? Great news for you! The new duty free system in Japan now makes popular consumable goods like snacks, sake, cosmetics and medicine eligible for tax exemption. Japan’s sweets and snacks are a common souvenir due to their unique designs and flavours that represent Japan’s seasons and culture. Cosmetics and medicine are also popular items because of their trusted quality due to strict Japanese standards.

To purchase duty free items when shopping in Japan, simply look out for shops with the logo ‘Japan, Duty Free Shop’ or do a quick search with the store search function that will be launched together with the new system this October.

To apply for tax exemption, simply show your passport to the cashier and sign the covenant of purchaser. Enjoy a fuss-free process when you apply for tax exemption at the point of purchase. However, under government regulation, sales tax will be charged upon departure if you open your wrapped consumable goods when you’re still in Japan.
