Hydrate your body with these healthy drinks

Skip sugary drinks and sip your way to healthier living with these beverages. Not only do they provide health benefits, some beverages even come in lower calories when compared to soft drinks.

Both food and beverages play a part in a balanced diet. Therefore, here are 6 guilt-free drinks for you to wash down with your meals.

Water

Our body needs at least 8-9 glasses of water daily to maintain our body temperature and stay hydrated. Insufficient water consumption leads to inefficient brain performance and impacts your energy level.

Besides helping you to digest food better, water also helps to detoxify the body. It flushes toxins out of your body by carrying vitamins and nutrients to your cells. Drinking water helps you to lose weight. It increases your metabolic rate, allowing you to burn more calories. You will also tend to feel fuller if you drink water consistently through the day and especially half an hour before meals. This allows you to eat and snack less.

Green Tea

Green tea is definitely worth adding to your diet. Being rich in flavonoids and polyphenols, green tea helps protect cells from cancer-causing substances. It also suppresses tumor growth by neutralizing free radicals in the body. When it comes to preventing cell damage, green tea’s antioxidants are said to be quite effective.

Drinking green tea regularly is good for those who wants to lower their cholesterol and eventually minimise the risk of heart disease in future. You are recommended to drink about 2-3 cups of green tea daily to fully reap its health benefits.

Coconut Water

If you’re physically active, unflavored and unsweetened coconut water is your alternative to energy drinks. Containing high levels of electrolytes including magnesium, it helps to control medical conditions such as high blood pressure. Coconut water restores all the mineral-rich fluids that you lose while exercising.

Coconut water could be the solution to constipation issues. Consuming a drink that’s rich in fiber helps in your digestion and reduce acid reflux.

Fresh Vegetable Juice

If you’re not a fan of eating salad or raw vegetables, you can try juicing them into a healthy drink. Vegetable juice is a good addition to your diet as it reduces inflammation, regulates your bowel movement, removes toxins and improves your metabolism. Therefore, juicing is an effective way to satisfy your daily intake of vegetables.

With a wide variety of vegetables available in the market, you can mix any of your favorite vegetables and blend together. You can even throw in fruits to the mix for enhanced flavoring.

Fresh Fruit Juice

As compared to juice concentrate, you can always blend your favorite fruits into one drink. Having a mixture of fruits in your juice allows you to take in different vitamins and minerals. Fresh fruit juice is a healthy fix for those who wants to regulate their sugar level. If you need to increase its sweetness, use natural sweeteners such as stevia or organic honey. Avoid white sugar and refrain from consuming bottled juices as they contain artificial ingredients such as coloring. You can easily find fruit juice in supermarkets or food courts if you do not have time to prepare 2 servings of fruits.

However, a single 8-ounce glass (236ml) of juice is adequate to satisfy your daily intake of fruits and vegetables.

Fruit-Infused Water

Slice a piece of lemon, cucumber, strawberry or any fruit and infuse it into your water. You can also top it with mint leaf for a refreshing taste. Not only is this a great way to detoxify your system, it will also motivate you to drink more water as it tastes better than plain water.

Search online for various fruit-infused water recipes or you can even create your own. Make sure to use fresh fruits so that you will feel revitalized after drinking.
