Online Shoppers Can Now ‘Try Before They Buy’

UK fashion technology company, Metail has created a technology platform to allow Singaporean online shoppers to ‘try on’ outfits true to their own body shape before purchasing them.

Ever purchased an outfit online only to be disappointed with the sizing after trying it on? With UK fashion technology company, Metail‘s technology platform, shoppers can now create their own virtual body avatar to ‘try on’ outfits found online before buying them.

According to a survey carried out by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) on behalf of UK fashion technology company, out of a sample of 1,203 Singaporean participants, the biggest appeal of e-tail therapy was convenience (33 percent); however the biggest frustration is uncertainty about sizes, with 25 percent saying they are put off from shopping online because they do not know what size to buy; or if it will suit their body shape (23 percent). Furthermore, nearly two thirds (62 percent) feel that photos used by online stores are not reflective of their own body shape, with 42 percent saying they would feel more confident about shopping online if the retailer recommended a size for them.

To address the issues above, Metail has recently partnered SPH’s e-commerce portal, SheShops the Online Store to provide Singaporeans with the first tech-enabled wardrobe in the region. While SPH has long been used to inspire consumer-purchasing decisions, this will be the first time a publisher integrates a retail platform into editorial content – allowing its readers to ‘try on’ outfits seen on the online store. Metail’s technology platform allows consumers to enter three basic body measurements to generate their body avatar (MeModels) – which is up to 92 percent true to their body shape. Users can further raise the accuracy to 96 percent by entering their hip and waist measurements, and even personalise their own MeModel by editing the skin tone and hair colour.

With Metail’s collaboration with SheShops the Online Store, users can now confidently browse from over 200 items of clothing from fashion labels including Carrie K, Chi Chi Von Tang and Antipodium without having to worry too much about sizing and fit.
