SIFA 2016 (The O.P.E.N): Perhat Khaliq And Qetiq

Explore the lesser-known Uyghur culture through Perhat Khaliq and Qetiq’s performance this June at The O.P.E.N.

After auditioning for the reality show “The Voice of China” in 2015, Perhat Khaliq from the remote Autonomous Uyghur Province of Xinjiang shot to fame in 2014. Known for his powerful vocals and emotionally charged performances, the singer, composer and guitar player has since turned into a major international star and has helped to change the perception of China’s minority Uyghur community.

On 23 and 24 June at the Victoria Theatre, Perhat Khaliq and his band, Qetiq will bring their firebrand music to the stage in their Asian premiere outside of China. As part of The O.P.E.N. – the pre-festival to the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA), be sure to head down for an experience of the band’s very own contemporary interpretation of traditional Uyghur and Kazakh music.

Discover even more about the Uyghur culture on the 25 June at the Artist Workshops by Qetiq & Mukkaddas Mijit from 2pm to 5pm at the SOTA Studio Theatre. a dance and music workshop and documentary film viewing at SOTA Studio Theatre. Facilitated by ethnomusicologist, dancer and filmmaker Mukaddass Mijit, be sure to participate in the dance and music workshop as well as a documentary film viewing for an insightful experience to remember.
