Singapore Heritage Festival Returns This Weekend

Presenting the hidden and lesser known stories of Singapore, Singapore Heritage Festival 2016 will offer specially curated programmes in celebration of our cultural heritage.

From 29 April to 15 May, Singapore Heritage Festival will offer three consecutive weekends of immersive programmes featuring trails, open houses and performances.

A Taste of Heritage

With food stalls lining the grounds of the current National Museum back in the 1960s, relive the experience once again with A Taste of Heritage food festival. Kicking off tonight and over this weekend, have a taste of Singapore’s vibrant food culture and indulge in popular local dishes such as Indian Rojak, Wanton Noodles and Satay while enjoying live performances. Come dressed in 1960s vintage wear to enjoy one free drink (with purchase of two drinks) at the Joo Gwee drink stall as well.

Celebrating Radio: Sounds from the Past

Visit the Celebrating Radio: Sounds from the Past exhibition to trace the evolution of Singapore’s broadcasting history from the 1930s to 1980s, and witness first-hand how the introduction of radio opened windows to various stories of distant events and cultures to many homes. Display items such as a phonograph dating back to the 1920s, radio permits and photographs, and various radios from different eras will also be present.

(Dis)Integration – Physical Theatre Performance by NAFA

Learn more about Singapore’s identity through the artistic practice of physical theatre performance by the students and alumni from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Through the performance, the performers will take you through Singapore’s history and present their own personal reflections on the multicultural roots of Singapore.

Urban Ventures @ Keong Saik Road

Keep a lookout for the re-imagination of public spaces as Keong Saik Road transforms into an arts carnival with interactive installations. Watch as artists present artworks that explore the history and lives of people who lived through the ages in Keong Saik.

Bedok Guided Bus Tour

Hop on this guided bus tour of the beloved Bedok area for a slice of history in the east, and discover how “kampong” lifestyles and food markets have transformed over the years.

A-Go-Go Night @ Kampong Gelam!

The Malay Heritage Centre will pay tribute to the most exciting period in local music history (the 1960s) with a mini concert featuring The Swallows, The Siglap Five and The Quests.

Movies Under The Ubin Stars

To relive how the quarry coolies and island residents used to enjoy outdoor movie screenings, films Dahdi by Kirsten Tan and New Film about Pulau Ubin by Royston Tan will be screened at Pulai Ubin Wayang Stage on 14 May. Bring your family down to enjoy a picnic film screening experience.
