From 20 to 22 May, Esplanade – Theatres by the Bay will be organising a three-day Super Japan Matsuri, showcasing Japan’s art and culture through food, performances and games.

Lovers of all things Japanese will be thrilled to know that Singapore’s first Super Japan Matsuri will be happening this weekend. The three-day Matsuri event is part of Esplanade’s new cultural festival, Super Japan – Japanese Festival of Arts, which showcases the arts and culture of Japan.

Catch Super Japan performances held at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre, which include Chindonya – Traditional Japanese Street Performances by the Adachi Company (Friday and Saturday); and an Enka performance by Windstars Ensemble (Sunday evening).

In addition, feast on local Japanese street food such as takoyaki, baby Castella, yakisoba (pan-fried noodles) and okonomiyaki (grilled Japanese pancake) – all freshly prepared by Japanese chefs. Pair it off with some Japanese draft beer, shochu highball and sake cocktails available at the matsuri as well.

To top off your authentic matsuri experience, traditional festival games will also be flown in from Japan. Old-time Japanese favourites such as shateki (shooting game), senbonbiki (lucky-pick strings), wanage (ring toss), yo-yo tsuri (yo-yo balloon) and katanuki (die-cut candy) will be available. Game coupons will be going at SGD 2 each.

Featuring a different theme each evening to keep things exciting, Friday will be themed for the Ladies and Students, Saturday catered to Cosplayers, and Sunday for Families. Match with the nightly theme and get a free game coupon every night (limited to first 100 guests).

The Super Japan Matsuri will kick off this Friday, 20 May at 5pm, and is located along the Esplanade Waterfront.
