Organised by Slow Food (Singapore) and held in conjunction with Singapore Food Festival, Kueh Appreciation Day pays tribute to the traditional kueh or local snacks that can be found in Singapore.

Slow Food (Singapore) presents “Kueh Appreciation Day 2016’ this 24 July from 10am to 6pm at Singapore’s largest Kitchen Wonderland, ToTT Store (Dunearn).

Held in conjunction with the Singapore Food Festival, the event will allow both the young and old to discover new snacks and soak up the nostalgic atmosphere. An assortment of delicious kuehs will be sold by local kueh artisans spanning across different ethnic groups: the HarriAnns (Peranakan), Kuehs and Snacks (Teochew), Mary’s Kafe (Eurasian), Ji Xiang Ang Ku Kueh (Hokkien), Hainan Xiao Chi (Hainanese); and new vendors, Old Seng Choong (Singaporean Chinese) and Chef Pang’s Hakka Snacks (Hakka).

Rare kueh such as the Hakka Vegeable Kueh by Chef Pang’s Hakka Snacks and the Larp, a unique Hainanese rice dumpling, will be specially prepared just for the event as well.

To better appreciate the intricacies and artful process behind the making of kueh, guests can sign up for Kueh Demonstration Classes priced at SGD 20 per person per class. Try your hand at creating your own Hakka Mugwort Ricecake, Hainan Larp, Kueh Lempur Udang or even Yam Cake with some of the heritage kueh makers invited by Slow Food Singapore.

ToTT will also be organising various Hands-on Cooking Classes on 20 and 24 July that are all going at SGD 118 per class. Pick up some culinary skills as you learn how to make your own Classic Nonya Kuehs such as the Nonya Kaya, Pulot Tai Tai, Pandan Custard Agar Agar and more.

Alternatively, learn how to make variations of the classic Kueh Lapis Cake at Chef Darryl Lim’s class; or learn how to prepare Handmade Nonya Kuehs such as the Steamed Durian Sago Kueh, Gula Melaka Sago Dessert and more.

Entry to the general event and kueh market is free for the public. Tickets for the Kueh Demonstration Classes are available here, while tickets to ToTT’s Hands-on Cooking Classes are available here.
