Sony Unveils Xperia 1 VII, Its Most Advanced Flagship Smartphone Yet
Sony has introduced its latest premium smartphone, the Xperia 1 VII, bringing cutting-edge camera, audio, and display technology to mobile users. Developed in collaboration with engineers from its Alpha digital cameras, Walkman portable audio players, and BRAVIA televisions, this new device integrates AI-driven enhancements under Xperia Intelligence to elevate photography, sound, and content viewing.
The Xperia 1 VII delivers a groundbreaking mobile camera experience with AI Camerawork and Auto Framing—features that allow users to capture smooth and stable videos without needing to focus on the screen. AI Camerawork ensures the subject remains centred, even while the user moves, by using posture estimation and image stabilisation technology. Auto Framing automatically tracks and crops the subject to maintain an ideal composition, creating professional-level videos effortlessly.
Equipped with a new 16mm ultra-wide-angle lens featuring a larger 48MP sensor, Xperia 1 VII enhances low-light performance with reduced noise and extended dynamic range. The telephoto lens offers optical zoom ranging from 85mm to 170mm, enabling high-resolution photography of distant subjects. The device also boasts Exmor T for mobile, a high-quality image sensor designed for bright and clear video capture, even when using AI cropping features.
Sony has infused its audio expertise into the Xperia 1 VII, incorporating components inspired by Walkman devices to improve sound clarity. The device offers an optimised circuit design, enhanced wired headphone output, and AI-powered DSEE Ultimate technology, ensuring immersive audio quality for both wired and wireless listening. The full-stage stereo speakers have been fine-tuned for even greater clarity across all frequency ranges.
Borrowing from BRAVIA’s advanced display technology, Xperia 1 VII includes a rear light sensor that adjusts brightness and colour temperature based on ambient lighting. Sunlight Vision optimises visibility outdoors, while an upgraded peak brightness display panel delivers a superior viewing experience.
Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, Xperia 1 VII achieves a 40 percent performance boost across the NPU, CPU, and GPU, enabling fast AI processing for photography, gaming, and multitasking. The device’s Processing Optimization feature extends battery life, supporting up to two days of active use. Users can expect long-term support, with up to four OS upgrades and six years of security updates.
Pricing and availability
The Xperia 1 VII will be available in Slate Black, Moss Green, and Orchid Purple, with an early bird promotion running to 30 June 2025. Priced at SGD 1,989 including GST, the promotion includes a free matching phone case and WH-1000 XM5 noise-cancelling headphones.
