Sony’s life tracker gets an update

By  |  0 Comments

Sony’s SmartBand 2 is an update on their first SmartBand, adding sensors and functionality to provide more insights on your fitness, well-being and stress levels.

Like its predecessor, the core electronics can be easily separated from its band. An in-built accelerometer and heart rate sensors work together to monitor pulse and heart rate variability, so that you can gauge overall fitness, excitement and stress levels throughout the day.

SmartBand 2 will automatically track activities such as walking, running and other workouts, as well as mapping your heart-rate concurrently. The proprietary Lifelog app, and as its name suggests, is more geared towards everyday activity as opposed to just a fitness-centric log, and helps you keep track of progress, provide fun comparative insights, and gives you motivational prompts based on what you’re doing.

As required of a life-centric device, the SmartBand 2 has a IP68 rating, meaning it can be submerged in water (3m max) for up to half an hour, making it great for swims (seawater is out though). Battery life is rated up to five days in stamina mode, but of course the device will drain the battery faster if pulse, stress, and heart rate sensing is switched on constantly.

The Sony SmartBand 2 will be available from 12 September onwards at Sony stores and centres for S$198.
