Three in Five Travellers Miss Cherry Blossoms Despite Careful Planning
Springtime and cherry blossoms are a beloved combination for many travellers chasing fleeting beauty and the promise of new beginnings.
However, a recent Klook survey reveals that three in five Singapore travellers miss their chance to see sakura in full bloom despite timing their trips around forecasts. This year, unpredictable weather remains a challenge for those hoping to capture this iconic spring experience.
Cherry Blossom Fever is in Full Swing
The allure of cherry blossoms remains strong, with nine in ten travellers planning to view these seasonal blooms. Japan continues to reign as the top destination, favoured by 82 percent of Singaporean spring travellers. However, social media is broadening horizons, inspiring 76 percent to explore cherry blossom hotspots in South Korea, Taiwan, and Mainland China. Surprisingly, 56 percent of respondents were unaware of Mainland China’s vibrant cherry blossom season—an underappreciated hidden gem for travellers.

Why the Bloom is So Elusive
Catching cherry blossoms requires precision. With a narrow 10-day bloom window and fluctuating weather patterns, planning can be tricky. Last year, Japan’s cherry blossoms bloomed 15 days late due to unexpected weather, leaving many travellers in limbo. Even Mount Fuji, Japan’s iconic symbol, lost its snowcap for the first time in 130 years.
Key challenges for cherry blossom seekers include:
- Timing the bloom perfectly
- Dealing with overcrowded locations
- Discovering the best spots for viewing
Despite these challenges, the demand for fleeting, unique travel moments continues to rise.
Spring Travel Grows in Popularity
Klook has reported a 35 percent increase in March bookings to North Asia in 2025, cementing spring as a premier travel season. From breathtaking scenery and photo opportunities to exclusive spring activities, cherry blossom trips are a highlight for many travellers. In fact, one in three Singaporean spring travellers is willing to spend at least 10 percent more on cherry blossom experiences compared to other activities.
The charm of cherry blossoms is timeless, drawing travellers year after year. For those chasing sakura this spring, careful planning and a bit of luck are key to ensuring an unforgettable experience.
