A headache or cephalgia is the pain that people feel in any region of the head. To some individuals, the pain can occur on both sides of the head while to some, the pain can be isolated to just one side.

According to the World Health Organization, around 47 percent of adults experience headaches in a year, typically as a symptom to other conditions and disorders. Though they can be a common complaint, you can something about it to minimise the headaches or get rid of them completely.

Instead of grabbing aspirin or panadol, here are some tips and tricks to help deal with headaches:

  1. Drink Water

Headaches can be a sign of dehydration. When this happens, you might have to increase your water intake daily to rehydrate your body properly. Always bring your water bottle or tumbler with you when you’re at work to resist the temptation of buying a cup of coffee or a fizzy soda. Remember to skip alcohol when you’re having headaches since they can dehydrate your body.

  1. Eat Almonds

According to research, almonds are effective way to cure headaches since they are filled with an ingredient called salicin in which popular over the counter killers usually contain. You can always stock almonds in your work desk and eat a handful once you feel the headache kicking in.

  1. Get a Massage

This is a great way to give yourself a break while you try and get rid of the headache. Getting a massage helps release the pain and tension that’s built up in your head. While the neck and the base of your scalp are getting massaged, expect your blood flow to become stimulated, eventually sending the pain away.

  1. Ice Pack

If your headache is caused by stress or sinus problems, placing an ice pack on your forehead will help improve circulation and shrink blood vessels at the same time. If you don’t have an ice pack, you can use a thin towel to wrap ice cubes or even use a frozen vegetable pack.
