Volkswagen has introduced yet another addition to the range of compact MPVs on our shores – the Sportsvan.

Sporting the classic design lines from the Golf and the Touran, Volkswagen has given the Sportsvan a much sharper trim that looks to unite functionalism and elegance. The versatile Sportsvan gets it closer to the roads with a lower ground clearance compared to the Touran and yet retains the elevated seating position popularised by the MPVs, creating an impressive ergonomical environment for the passengers to the vehicle cabin.

The three-row seating concept also claims a similar wheelbase with the Touran without compromising on its lightweight design, and offers a maximum cargo capacity of 1,520-litres. The safety package of the Sportsvan include seven airbags, the electronic stabilisation programme (ESP) and safety-optimised head restraints in front.

The intelligent proactive occupant protection system further enhances ESP intervention to the airbag and belt system during unforeseen emergencies, another emphasis on vehicular safety. Pilots get to choose from four programmed driving profile selector modes: Eco, Sport, Normal and Individual. These driving modes toggle between optimal fuel-efficiency for long family trips and responsive gear-shift transmission for a more dynamic experience.

The standard drive train of the Sportsvan comes with a range of BlueMotion Technology efficiency improvement measures that powers an impressive 200Nm of torque at 1,400rpm from its 1.4-litre TSI engine. In short, the fuel efficiency is estimated at 18km/litre in the combined cycle. The Sportsvan is now available in two versions – Comfortline and Highline, both powered by the 1.4 TSI engine. The Comfortline is extremely well equipped, with features like Climatronic dual-zone climate control, automatic headlamps and wipers, driving profile selection, cruise control with speed limiter and 17-inch alloy wheels all coming as standard while the Sportsvan Highline goes even further, with additional equipment including 18-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension, KESSY keyless entry and starting, bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights, a panoramic sunroof and a rear view camera.
