Volkswagen Unveils Its New Touran

Bigger and lighter, the all-new Volkswagen Touran is set to captivate those who are in the market for a family people-mover.

The much vaunted Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform by Volkswagen has apparently been inspiring new works of design from the German manufacturer, so much so that the brand has launched a new Touran to capture the hearts of those who’re in the market for a new MPV.

And sweetening the deal of the versatile people-mover is the fact that Volkswagen has advanced both its active and passive safety innovations through the use of a crash-optimised body that includes high strength steel to increase the static stiffness of the car’s body structure by 25 percent. Seven airbags come as standard equipment on the Touran, including a driver’s knee airbag and a range of assistance systems including the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System that slows the vehicle down when a collision is detected, and the Pre-Crash proactive occupant protection system that reinforces the airbag and seatbelt system in the event of a potential accident situation.

Performance wise, the new Touran uses a direct-injection 1.4-litre turbocharged TSI engine and produces approximately 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque to finish off a commendable combined driving cycle of 17.8 kilometres per litre of fuel.
