The Active Age reviews Hafbox’s Cane Art walking canes.

Hafbox’s “Cane Art” walking canes are a series of stylish walking aids that are both adjustable and foldable. These adjustable walking canes can offer users the convenience of a lightweight mobility aid with the functionality of storing them in a handbag or haversack when not in use. Focused on safety and functionality, the canes are meant for both casual and health-related use.

The canes are made – in Taiwan – from lightweight aluminum and can support up to 110 kg. Additionally, the base of the rubber tip has a steel washer inserted to improve its durability.

The length of the cane’s shaft can be adjusted and the models brought in by Hafbox have been customised for Asian heights. When not in use, the canes are foldable into four parts and held together by a rubber grip. The canes also come with a black zipped storage bag.

These walking canes have been designed for more than just seniors. Many people, such as those going through post-surgery recovery or travellers looking for a high quality, well manufactured walking stick for trekking, can benefit from using the “Cane Art” walking cane.

The Active Age recently received two walking canes from Hafbox for testing.

We shared a walking cane with an active ager (52 year old, Mr Yong, a procurement manager) over a week. Together with Mr Yong, we graded the walking canes across three categories – functionality, usage and aesthetics. Here are some of his opinions recorded during the week he reviewed the cane.

Functionality: 7 out of 10

  • The walking cane felt rather sturdy, given the constant folding to keep into my bag and unpacking throughout the day
  • When folded, the cane easily slipped into my work bag; making it very convenient when I was on the train or bus

Usage: 9 out of 10

  • I weigh about 80kg and the cane was able to handle my weight easily
  • The cane provided good support on uneven ground and given that it was just the right height, I did not have to constantly adjust my weight
  • I can appreciate the lightweight material, both when using the cane since I do not have to dread lifting the cane for each step that I take; and I did not feel like I was carrying a heavy object when it was stored in my bag

Aesthetics: 8 out of 10

  • My opinion is that the manufacturer should find a way to connect the rubber grip to the cane, in case I drop or misplace it when using the cane
  • My wife finds the designs interesting and not as boring as my other normal walking cane
  • I understand the handles and the shaft come in different designs and well, it’s not too far-fetched to choose which cane to use based on attire and my mood

The “Cane Art” walking canes’ are available online and at retail from Hafbox. There are two cane categories including the “executive” canes selling at SGD 68 and the “luxe” canes are available at SGD 88. The different designs can be viewed on the website and at their retail shop as well.
