Community-as-a-Service: Better Things Launches to Revitalise Singaporean Neighbourhoods

By  |  0 Comments

Singapore-founded platform Better Things has officially launched, introducing an innovative “community-as-a-service” model designed to bring shared services and experiences directly into residential estates.

By enabling residents to host and join activities within their own neighbourhoods, the platform aims to reimagine urban community living as a foundation for lifelong learning, wellbeing, and social connection.

Global Recognition and Academic Support

Shortly after its inception, Better Things achieved significant international and local backing:

  • Long Life Venture Builder (LLVB): In December 2025, the platform was selected for this prestigious global programme led by LSE Generate (London School of Economics) and the LSE Global School of Sustainability. The programme recognises innovative solutions for longevity and the future of work.
  • Local Partnership: The platform is also supported by the Singapore Management University’s (SMU) Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Transforming Residential Spaces

The platform currently boasts over 1,000 registered users and has organised more than 100 sessions across Singapore, Johor, and Forest City.

How it Works for Residents

Better Things turns underutilised common areas—such as multipurpose rooms, outdoor decks, or even private homes—into vibrant activity hubs:

  • Booking and Hosting: Residents can browse curated sessions like yoga, pilates, children’s playdates, or wine tastings. The first person to book a session has the option to host it within their building.
  • Safety and Trust: Every experience is facilitated by a secure system involving verified providers who undergo identity and qualification checks.
  • Seamless Transactions: The platform handles all bookings, payments, and cancellations to ensure a friction-free experience.

Empowering Micro-Entrepreneurs: The “Build and Found” Programme

To support local talent and small businesses, Better Things launched the Build and Found programme. This initiative helps skilled individuals—including fitness instructors, private chefs, and educators—reach new customers without the burden of high rental costs or marketing overheads.

Provider Testimonials

  • Educational Reach: Jedidiah Huang of The Jedi Chess Academy notes that the platform solves the challenge of finding accessible, well-equipped venues for tutors and students.
  • Hyperlocal Growth: Cassandra Ong, founder of OtterHalf, uses the platform to run workshops for her marketing-themed card game, reaching families who value hands-on learning.
  • Efficient Scheduling: Fitness instructor Lim Shuping highlights how the platform makes it simple to fill classes by connecting her directly with nearby users who share an interest in women’s health.

“Better Things is built upon the belief that our homes can and should be the foundation for a more self-directed, connected and fulfilling way of life,” shared founder Jeanette Wu. She noted that this aligns with the Forward Singapore pillars of building a tighter, more active community that ages well together.
