A Walk Through History: Celebrating a 200-Year-Old Green Friendship at Fort Canning Park
While 2025 marks 60 years of official diplomatic relations between Denmark and Singapore, the connection between the two nations is much older and greener than many realise. Their shared ties actually date back over 200 years.
The choice of Fort Canning Park for an upcoming celebration is no accident. Back in 1822, a Danish botanist and surgeon named Nathaniel Wallich played a key role in establishing Singapore’s very first botanic garden, right on that historic spot. It’s a piece of shared history that continues today, with over 400 Danish companies in Singapore contributing to the green transition.
To celebrate this long-standing ‘Growing Greener Together’ partnership , the Embassy of Denmark in Singapore and Novo Nordisk are inviting everyone for “A Walk in the Park”. This isn’t just about diplomacy; it’s a celebration of green and healthy living.
In our always-on culture, the event is a timely reminder that walking is one of the most accessible and sustainable ways to improve health. It’s a simple, equipment-free habit that is proven to help maintain a healthy heart and reduce stress and anxiety.
The event is free and open to everyone—you are encouraged to bring your family, friends, and colleagues.
It takes place on Saturday, 22 November 2025, from 8:30 AM to 12 PM at the Fort Gate Lawn, Fort Canning Park. Guest of Honour, Minister for Health Mr Ong Ye Kung, will also be in attendance.
Participants can choose between a 1.60 km or a 3.60 km route. Healthy snacks and water will be provided after the walk, but please bring your own water bottle to help reduce waste.
Registration is mandatory, so be sure to sign up online to join in the celebration of this historic milestone.
