AIA Launches App-Based Programme to Tackle Singapore’s Chronic Disease Crisis

By  |  0 Comments

Singaporeans are living longer, but spending an average of 10 years in later life dealing with illness.

A new digital programme is targeting the nation’s top chronic conditions by delivering personalised lifestyle coaching right to your phone.

In line with Singapore’s focus on proactive wellness through the Healthier SG initiative, AIA Singapore has partnered with Amplify Health to launch a new Chronic Disease Management Programme (CDMP). The programme uses technology and a multi-disciplinary approach to help individuals with high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol.

The core idea is simple: the most powerful changes for our health are often the simple, everyday lifestyle shifts.

“As Singapore’s population ages, we must shift our focus from extending lifespans to extending healthspans,” said Irma Hadikusuma, Chief Marketing and Healthcare Officer, AIA Singapore. This new mobile app-based programme is an important step in that direction. Research even suggests that encouraging healthier behaviours could save Singapore up to S$650 million in healthcare costs by 2050.

The 12-month CDMP is available to eligible AIA insured members aged 40 and above. It is specifically designed to complement Healthier SG by providing personalised support between GP visits.

The programme is delivered through the Amped mobile app and is built on behavioural science and technology. This means policyholders get a holistic approach to managing their condition:

  • Expert Coaching: Users receive unlimited text-based coaching from a multi-disciplinary team, including dietitians, fitness coaches, and mental wellness experts.
  • Tailored Plans: The app offers a personalised health plan and goal setting, along with insightful video consultations.
  • Digital Tools: It features a robust range of behaviour modification tools, such as AI meal logging, sleep and activity tracking, and motivational nudges.

According to Axel Baur, Chief Executive Officer, Amplify Health, patients using the app have already seen real improvements, with doctors reporting that patients stay more engaged between visits and understand their diets better.

Expanding the Wellness Ecosystem

The CDMP is the latest addition to AIA Singapore’s growing suite of holistic wellness solutions. It complements their existing AIA Vitality programme, which motivates and incentivises healthier choices.

This focus on proactive health is part of a broader strategy by AIA Singapore, which has recently included:

  • Collaborations with Mount Alvernia and Raffles Hospital Groups to increase access to quality healthcare.
  • Strengthening its partnership with WhiteCoat in 2024 to extend telemedicine access to over 1 million insured members.
  • Introducing expanded inpatient coverage for mental healthcare within corporate insurance policies for over 1.3 million employees.

The goal is clear: to empower Singaporeans with chronic conditions to take charge of their health and make lasting lifestyle changes, ensuring they live not just longer, but better.
