Chinatown Singapore Launches Inaugural Smith Street CNY Festive Market
Chinatown Singapore is set to celebrate the Year of the Horse with the inaugural “Heng Ong Huat @ Chinatown Smith Street CNY Festive Market,” marking the first time Chinese New Year festivities will take place along the newly rejuvenated Smith Street.
Organised by the Chinatown Business Association (CBA), the nine-day event runs to 1 February 2026, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily. The market transforms the precinct into a lively hub of cultural performances, interactive workshops, and festive shopping.

Traditional Heritage with a Modern Local Twist
The festival brings Chinese New Year customs to life through a blend of free public performances and hands-on ticketed workshops:
- Calligraphy as Living Art: Celebrated poet and calligrapher Mr Guo Shu Ming (Nan Shan Zi) will lead workshops on 24 January. His work is known for blending classical techniques with local Singaporean references, such as bak chor mee and hawker scenes.
- Lion Dance Training: Established troupes like Tian Eng and the Chin Woo Athletic Association will perform across Smith and Pagoda Streets. Hands-on workshops on 31 January will introduce children and youths to the rhythms and movements of this iconic tradition.
- Walkabout Blessings: On selected weekends (24-25 January and 31 January – 1 February), the God of Fortune (财神爷) will make appearances between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM to distribute blessings for the New Year.
Festive Shopping and Iconic Flavours
The market features a curated selection of lifestyle and local heritage brands, offering unique gifts and seasonal treats along Smith Street:
