A Nod to the Past Amongst Games of the Future

By  |  0 Comments

For those who remember, the eighties was an era for some of the best moments in the history of video games and arcade machines.

GameStart is a name that strikes a chord with a younger crowd as a showcase festival celebrating the latest video games. But at Gamestart 2015, you get to walk down memory lane and experience the machines that ate away at your money, one coin at a time, thanks to Retro DNA.

From the crude but incredibly addictive Space Invaders, Donkey Kong and Pac Man in the seventies and eighties, through to the ‘guncon’ (played with a physical toy gun) era of Time Crisis 2 and 3, and approaching the present with pioneering 3D games like Virtua Fighter 2, Retro DNA will be an extremely nostalgic booth for the once-avid gamer. Expect also to see battery-operated electronic games, as well as old Nintendo and Sega consoles.

Star Wars fans would undoubtedly be eagerly awaiting the latest instalment in the saga, which can’t come soon enough. But the Star Wars Battle Pod will certainly satiate (or instead, intensify) that yearning. The spiritual successor to the 1983 Atari Star Wars arcade machine, the Battle Pod is light years ahead in bringing you that inimitable (albeit simulated) experience of a space battle, Star Wars style.

Star Wars Dimensions

This massive beast of a machine (the home version starts from USD$35,000) was designed to make you feel like you are reliving classic scenes from the movies, with the control stick and seat vibrating as explosions ripple around you. The dome-shaped screen puts you in the hot seat of iconic Star Wars vehicles of yore, and totally immerses you with the encompassing view as you recreate the classic battles of Yavin and Hoth, as well as the final battle to take out the second Death Star.

Playstation VR

And if these throwbacks to the past piqued your interest, you would do well to check out the future at GameStart, for making its first public appearance is the much talked-about Playstation VR: a virtual reality headgear that gives you a personalised 360-degree virtual world view as you wave your arms to interact with the world that only you can see, to the amusement of onlookers. It’s an unforgettable experience that will captivate the next generation as much as those classic arcade machines once did for yours.
