Wellness is a priority for 8 out of 10 corporate employees

Virgin Active’s Wellness in the Workplace Survey 2023 found that 70 percent of corporate employees visit the gym as a form of stress relief.

The Wellness in the Workplace Survey 2023 was conducted in May 2023, covering 534 respondents (that are in the corporate workforce) and their fitness and wellness habits and preferences.

Findings from the Virgin Active survey include:

  • 81.5 percent of corporate employees prioritise holistic wellness as part of their health journey
  • 86.6 percent of corporate employees go to the gym at least twice a week, spending an average time of an hour to an hour and a half in the gym.
  • The survey found that consumers view wellness through a much broader and more sophisticated lens, encompassing not just fitness and nutrition but also overall physical and mental health and appearance.
  • 69.6 percent of corporate employees visit the gym as a form of stress relief
  • 64 percent also aim to step out of a sedentary lifestyle
  • Other reasons to visit the gym include building self-confidence (38.51 percent) and to experience fun classes (35.56 percent).
  • 72.2 percent of corporate employees strive to maximise time efficiency and value convenience, preferring quick and convenient workouts at an easily accessible gym.
  • The survey concludes that 82.7 percent of respondents go to a gym near their office, that is either walking distance, a quick drive, a short bus or train ride away.

The results derived from Virgin Active’s Wellness in the Workplace Survey 2023 shows that 70% of the corporate employees visit the gym as a form of stress relief. With most corporate employees transitioning back into the office at least 3 days a week or more, Virgin Active plays a key role in helping corporate employees cope with stress from their workload to prevent burnout and fatigue. Other than focusing on physical fitness, we should bear in mind that mental well-being affects our overall health as well.
