Great Eastern Leads the Charge in Pre-Planning for Singaporeans

In a pioneering move, Great Eastern has partnered with the government to promote the importance of pre-planning among Singaporeans. This initiative is part of a broader campaign launched by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social and Family Development, and the Public Service Division in July 2023.

A first in the insurance industry

Great Eastern is the first insurer in Singapore to support this campaign, setting a precedent in the industry. The company is driving pre-planning through MyLegacy@LifeSG (My Legacy), an integrated digital platform designed to help Singaporeans plan for end-of-life matters.

My Legacy provides comprehensive information and services on pre-planning, including the Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA), Advance Medical Directive (AMD), and Advance Care Planning (ACP). These tools are crucial for individuals to appoint trusted people to manage their care and financial matters when they are unable to do so themselves.

Empowering Singaporeans to plan ahead

A recent survey conducted by the Public Service Division revealed that over 90 percent of respondents agreed on the importance of making arrangements in case they lose mental capacity or pass away. Great Eastern is positioned to promote all aspects of life planning for Singaporeans, offering complimentary certification clinics to help with LPA and AMD applications.

While LPA application fees are waived until the end of March 2026, certification fees may still apply. Great Eastern’s team of trained financial representatives are on hand to guide Singaporeans through the process, helping them make informed decisions about their preferences for trusted individuals to act in their interest in the event of mental incapacity.

Raising awareness through film

To further raise awareness of the initiative, Great Eastern has sponsored a local film titled ‘Good Goodbye. The heartwarming film centers around the theme of palliative care, a critical aspect of advanced care planning, and encourages viewers to contemplate the type of farewell they wish to bid their loved ones.

This partnership between Great Eastern and the government underscores the importance of pre-planning and the role it plays in securing a good quality of life for Singaporeans.
