Great Eastern Women’s Run 2024: Empowering Women and Inspiring Young Runners
The 18th edition of the Great Eastern Women’s Run (GEWR) is off to a positive start, with the official launch event taking place at the Guoco Tower Urban Park.
The event was graced by Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State (MOS) for Social and Family Development and Home Affairs, and Mr Khor Hock Seng, Group Chief Executive Officer, Great Eastern.
Building on the success of last year’s edition, which saw over 9,000 women participating, GEWR 2024 is set to take place on Sunday, 27 October, at the Singapore Sports Hub.
As Singapore’s only all-women’s running event, GEWR offers six race categories, catering to a wide range of participants, from local elite runners to young girls.
This year, GEWR is introducing a special treat for young participants. Sanrio character Cinnamoroll will be featured in the 2km ‘Mummy + Me’ and the 100m Princess Dash categories. This initiative aims to motivate young girls to get physically active and experience the joys of exercising together. Participants can look forward to exclusive GEWR X Cinnamoroll design merchandise, including race tees, bibs, and medals.
In addition to promoting fitness, GEWR is also expanding its fundraising efforts. The event has been raising funds for Daughters Of Tomorrow (DOT) and Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) to support underprivileged women and cancer survivors. This year, a new fundraising category has been introduced for corporate partners to boost donations for these vulnerable groups.
The Great Eastern Women’s Run celebrates female strength, grit, and resilience by creating a safe and supportive space for women to run and bond as a community. Every woman deserves a great run in life, and as the only race in Singapore championing female wellness and camaraderie, we want to inspire women by being the run they can always count on to help them Reach for Great.
Mr Khor Hock Seng, Group Chief Executive Officer, Great Eastern
At the launch event, MOS Sun, along with representatives from Great Eastern, corporate partners, beneficiaries, and elite runners, participated in a 10-minute treadmill run. The segment raised SGD 10,099, with Great Eastern donating SGD 1 for every metre covered. This amount, along with the SGD 38 donations from participants, will be added to the proceeds from the fundraising campaign, all of which goes to DOT and SCS.
The Great Eastern Women’s Run engages women across generations and different fitness levels. It has built a strong community that bonds over wellness activities like running and walking, contributing to good health and social outcomes.
