MindLab Opens in Singapore

MindLab is an applied neuroscience clinic that integrates technology for brain mapping and training to achieve optimal mental and physical health for people.

MindLab is an applied neuroscience clinic that was recently launched by Santiago Brand in Singapore.

Santiago has 13 years of experience in the field of brain training and brain mapping using neurofeedback, biofeedback and brain spotting. The concept of MindLab involves integrating state-of-the-art evidence-based brain training with the latest technology to optimise the mental and physical health for customers.

I have also learned that stress, anxiety, depression, eating disorders and divorce rates are on the rise in Singapore. Poor sleep has become the norm, not the exception. This is why I do what I do. At MindLab, we want to give people back their happiness, their joy, their peace of mind. We want to make them stronger and more resilient, and I do believe that training the brain is one of the best ways to achieve that.

Santiago Brand, Founder of MindLab

The clinic taps on a team of board-certified professionals with a variety of educational and training backgrounds and 30 years of combined experience to address individual needs.

The team uses evidence-based brain training with technology and treatment modalities such as qEEG (brain mapping), psychophysiological stress profile, neurocognitive testing, neurofeedback, biofeedback and neurostimulation.

Assessments and interventions are customised to provide the best healing experience possible.

What happens at a MindLab session?

The first step involves an initial assessment where the team learns how a customer’s brain and body work. This helps determine the best intervention to meet the individual’s needs.

The assessment includes:

  • Brain mapping (qEEG): They use specialised equipment to look at brain waves which are converted into 3D images. This helps them understand and explain to customers why they may be feeling, thinking or acting in a certain way.
  • Psychophysiological stress profile: Biofeedback allows them to monitor important physiological functions such as breathing, heart rate, muscle tension and temperature. By observing and understanding these functions, they can design interventions that can help successfully manage stress, anxiety, sleep and other variables that are affecting daily life.
  • Computerised cognitive testing: This consists of a series of tasks and games where they collect information about the customer’s brain and how it processes memory, reaction time and speed, executive functions, and other important skills that relate to health and performance.
  • Comprehensive written report: Customers are provided with a comprehensive written report that explains all the findings from their brain map, stress profile and cognitive tests.

After determining the most appropriate intervention, the team will move into the training phase. This is accomplished with biofeedback and neurofeedback, where they teach clients to self-regulate by using their own brain and body signals.

Customers get to play a video game or a movie by solely using their brain, controlling the feedback with their brain waves and (in a way) thoughts.

Such interventions can help customers to focus and concentrate more, sleep better, manage stress and anxiety and feel happier, amongst other effects.

MindLab practices progress tracking where a customer’s progress is constantly monitored to ensure that they are on the right track and that their clients are fully benefiting from the training.

The full (initial) assessment is also repeated after every 20 to 30 sessions.

Is MindLab available to all customers?

According to MindLab, they work with individuals aged 6 and above,
from children to senior citizens, corporate workers to elite athletes.

MindLab

For instance, MindLab can help parents understand why their child is not
doing well at school, why he or she cannot sit still, why he or she seems to forget things, and many other behaviors that are stressful or worrisome. Using Neurofeedback – a safe and fun form of brain training – suits children very well as their brains are are more malleable (plasticity) and neurofeedback can further enhance this plasticity and optimise brain functioning in a safe and steady manner. Neurofeedback has been endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics as an efficient treatment for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

For seniors, they often worry about memory loss or sleep disturbances believing they might be developing Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s or other neurodegenerative disorders. MindLab’s thorough assessment (qEEG brain mapping, stress profile and neurocognitive testing) can help determine whether those conditions may be a normal component of aging or whether further medical evaluation may be required. Neurofeedback is highly efficient for seniors with healthy central nervous systems. By
optimising brain functioning, it can significantly reverse memory loss, help with essential tremors, improve sleep and learning.
