For the first time in Singapore theatre, getai performers will come together in a new theatrical production debuting on 20 April 2016.

This April, Resorts World Singapore (RWS) redefines glam and getai in Ge Tai – The Musical – their first-ever original Chinese production. The live musical will take you back to Singapore in the 1980s with glitzy elaborate costumes and familiar classics such as Cupid (爱神) and Hokkien crowd-favourite Fight to Win (爱拼才会赢),.

Hao Hao, who plays himself as a getai performer from overseas, is one of the charismatic getai performers who star in Ge Tai – The Musical, Resorts World Sentosa’s theatrical production.

Desmond Ng plays the male protagonist, Liu Ge, a little-known amateur performer in the 80’s, who ultimately blossoms to become a getai star after experiencing some trials and tribulations in Ge Tai – The Musical, Resorts World Senotsa’s first-ever original Chinese theatrical production.

Flaunting a star-studded cast consisting of Desmond Ng, Hao Hao, Lin You Fa, Bao Bei Sisters, and Tay Ying Ying, the heartwarming production promises to entertain and tug at the heartstrings. Accompanying the leading cast is six Asian heavyweight guest performers – Zhang Xue Zhong, Sakura Teng, Yang Xiao Ping, Zhang Di, Cai Qiu Feng, and Qing Shan; who play as themselves entering the local getai scene from overseas. Each of them will take turns to make a special weekly appearance while reprising their timeless hits during the show run.

Set in two different eras, Ge Tai – The Musical tells the story of how a getai performer from overseas overcomes the prejudice and discrimination from local performers to eventually becoming popular among the locals. The heartwarming musical is centred on kinship and nostalgia, making it perfect for families to enjoy and reminisce the past together.

Ge Tai – The Musical will premiere on 20 April till 29 May 2016; 8pm on Fridays, 3pm (Matinee) and 8pm on Saturdays and Sundays; at Resorts World Theatre, Resorts World Singapore.

Tickets are starting from SGD 38 onwards and can be purchased at SISTIC or Resorts World Theatre.
