Review: Sony Float Run earphones

By  |  0 Comments

The Sony Float Run is light, delivers good sound, and is unobtrusive.

Finding headphones for an active lifestyle can be a challenge. But fret not, the Sony Float Run headphones might just be what you are looking for.

We received a review unit to test for just under 2 weeks. This is what we have discovered about the Sony Float Run.

Adds to comfort when running

Designed for runners, the immediate stand out of the Sony Float Run is how comfortable and light the headphones are. The headphones are merely a light 33g. No more feeling ‘weighed’ down when juggling a towel, a phone and possibly a water bottle. The cable is tangle-free, so it was easy to grab and go, to start the run.

Coupled with the adjustable ear loops, I was able to adjust the fit. The soft material it was made out of did not rub against the skin, during or after the run. There was no frustration experienced with the headphones dropping out mid-way during a run, or having to constantly adjust and readjust the fit.

To be fair, there was a slight tussle for behind the ear space, especially since I wear glasses. It did not take away from the experience of wearing and running with the headphones.

Good sound quality with the Sony Float Run

Good sound quality and workout headphones do not typically go hand-in-ear with each other. However, the Sony Float Run delivers a deep bass that helps with most types of workout music. They sit comfortably in the ear, and given its light weight, means I was able to keep the headphones on for an extended period of time.

The website shares that the headphones are also good for taking phone calls, but we did not get to try that feature out during our review period.

Long battery life, and quick charging = no more excuses not to work out

Sony shares that the headphones can provide up to 10 hours of playtime when fully charged. There is also the quick charge capability where 10 minutes of charging provides 60 minutes of use. More than sufficient to finish that 5km run.

Better outdoors than in the gym

The Sony Float Run provided a better experience on an outdoor run, then it did with the treadmill or elliptical. At half volume (50%), the machine drowned out the music. Cranking it up to full volume solved that problem, but it is not a healthy long-term solution for your ears. At full volume, there was sound leakage, and other gym users were able to hear the music playing as well.

However, the comfort and weight still made this a good pair of headphones to bring along, and perhaps focus on weights training instead.

IPX4 water resistance helps with workout sweat

The headphones are durable, and are sweat and water-resistant. This means the headphones could take the splashes as I cleaned it post-workout of the sweat.

Overall, the Sony Float Run headphones provided a comfortable experience, and did not add to any of the typical frustrations a runner might face. The sound quality was good, the fit was comfortable, connecting to Bluetooth was simple and it was easy to clean and charge post-workout.

Availability and pricing for the Sony Float Run
