Now that the long awaited season 6 of Game of Thrones has premiered, fans can finally immerse themselves in the mystical lands of Westeros through their very own television screens. However, as “winter” is coming, so are vacations. ZUJI Singapore has prepared travellers with a specially curated guide to the visually stunning backdrops of the popular show.

Here is a list of places every die-hard fan of the phenomenal television show has to visit – from breathtaking seaside views to ancient cities, and wintery snowy capes to majestic castles.

Croatia, Dubrovnik

As both the backdrop for Meereen and King’s Landing, travellers will set out on a path that our very beloved Khaleesi herself walked. With magnificent views and medieval charm, the diverse cityscape fits the bill for both the grandiose of King’s Landing and any other iconic scenes. Wander the streets and role-play as your very own favourite characters straight out of the scenes of the Purple Wedding, the Red Keep or even the House of the Undying.

Spain, Seville

A land where the Sand Snakes themselves resided within the House Martell, the famous water gardens of Dorne is located in the stunning Alcazar of Seville, Spain. Live as one of the great families of Westeros did and immerse in the intricate architecture and tranquil courtyards. The palace is still occupied by the royal family to date and was marked as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987.

Morocco

Queen Daenerys Targaryen’s unforgettable conquest of both Yunkai and Astapor was filmed at Ait-Benhaddou and Essaouira respectively. With the ancient city’s magnificent citadel and nearby Ounila River, the fortified mud-brick fortress city of Ait-Benhaddou and stunning walled town of Essaouira still stands proudly despite the fictional battle and sacking of the city.

Malta

In the first season of the series, King’s Landing was actually filmed in Malta’s former capital, Madina. With its historic buildings and unique medieval grandeur, the location fit perfectly the requirements of King’s Landing. Unlike King’s Landing’s seaside locations, Madina is located in-land of the coast – which explains why only interior shots of the Westrosi capital were captured. Also, the setting for Daenerys Targaryan and Khal Drogo’s wedding was filmed at Malta’s magnificent Azure Window.

Iceland

With beautiful snowy white landscapes paired with the brutal elements of winter, the mystical landscape of Vatnajökull, Iceland is the perfect location for the land Beyond the Wall. One of the largest glaciers in Europe covering 8 percent of the country, the national park was where the Night’s Watch resided. Take comfort in knowing that Jon Snow presides over these lands – protecting everyone from the wildings to white walkers that might pose potential danger to any wandering travellers.

As travelling on dragons is still not an available option, travellers may just have to settle for the second best – ZUJI Singapore’s flight and package promotions. Check out zuji.com.sg for more information on your desired locations for your next adventure.
