Under the Golden Work series, senior participants will be able to take up internships, part-time and light work offered by partner companies.

To encourage active agers of 50-years-old and above to pursue lifelong learning aspirations and lead an active lifestyle, the People’s Association’s Senior Academy has launched The Golden Work series which comprises a variety of customised job-based skills workshops. Seniors who are interested to do part-time work and/or freelance work are able to pick up relevant skills and knowledge required by the work industries through the workshops.

People’s Association is working closely with corporate and community partners like the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) to identify jobs that are suitable for seniors and develop relevant workshops to best match the skills required by the various industries.

The customised job-based skills courses include:

  • Food & Beverage
  • Clothes & Laundry
  • Caregiving
  • IT & Mobile Technology
  • Craftworks
  • Soft skills

With the support of the Singapore Manufacturing Federation, some of the partnering companies for the Golden Work series include Dione International Pte Ltd., Far East Flora.com Pte Ltd, Modern-Pak, Orchid Laundry, Sakae Holdings Pte Ltd and Tea Ideas Pte Ltd.

These companies will offer over 100 vacancies for part-time work and internships involving floral arrangements, hamper wrapping and product promoting during festive seasons. Other part-time positions available include customer service personnel, receptionists and data-entry support. For those who prefer doing lighter work, industry partners such as Tea Ideas Pte Ltd offers jobs such as tea packing at the Community Clubs (CCs). Seniors can earn between S$5 and S$8 per hour.

Participants will also collect a stamp for every course completed under the Golden Work series and redeem gifts after accumulating a certain number of stamps.

As part of the SG50 celebrations, Singaporean or PR participants can select a course of interest and pay a subsidized cost of S$10 (PAssion Card member) or S$20 (Non-PAssion Card member). The average actual course fee for the various electives is about S$25. Participants aged below 50 years will pay S$20 (PAssion Card member) or S$30 (Non-Passion Card member).
