This Mojo Strikes All the Right Chords

How far will you go to have the ultimate portable music experience on the go? With the Chord Mojo, you might not have to.

The portable Chord Mojo is an interesting DAC (Digital-to-Analog-Converter) that’s designed with relative newcomers in mind, and is meant to be paired with smartphones. You also have the option to connect other DAPs (Digital Audio Players) and even your desktop via coaxial, optical, or USB – it’s remarkably flexible.

Despite the relative beginner tag, the price tag is far from it. At S$999, it is a big statement of commitment for someone who’s getting their feet wet.

But what makes it interesting is that even at that price, the Mojo offers a sound and performance that punches way above its weight. It’s all thanks to an unconventional, but highly advanced circuit design that’s entirely different from the competition. While many lay claim to having studio quality sound for a fraction of the price, the Mojo is one that possibly lives up to that description.

It’s also able to support (almost) any headphone that you can throw at it, supporting impedances as high as 800Ω. It plays all files from 32kHz to 768kHz, even the very taxing DSD 512 format. Long story short, there’s nothing that will faze it unless you’re trying really hard to make it fail.

Despite all that power, the Mojo is relatively small, and the case is machined from aluminum for durability. The internal battery is rated for 10 hours, and a full charge takes only four hours.

Although one doesn’t simply recommend a thousand dollar portable DAC to a beginner, the fact remains that the Chord Mojo packs plenty of oomph for the price, and will appeal to tone chasers all round.
