WOAH! a healthy ice cream!
Launched earlier in July, WOAH! is an ice cream with high protein, calcium, and iron content but low in fat, carbs, calories and sugar. It is also Singapore’s first protein ice-cream. WOAH! is certified by the Singapore Health Promotion Board (HPB) as a healthier choice symbol (HCS) product.
The ice cream contains L-Leucine, a key ingredient – not found in competing brands – which stimulates protein synthesis and assists with building muscle mass. This ingredient is burned by the muscles as fuel, helps in body tissue repair and reduces the chance of muscle degeneration. All good news for everyone from children to the elderly, fitness buffs to hospital patients.
WOAH! was designed from scratch by Founder, Edward Food. He focused on providing an ice cream that is high in minerals like calcium and iron, while keeping sugar and calorie content low. It is vegetarian and gluten-free with a nutrition profile that suits both young and old, active and elderly. The ice cream is available in 6 flavours – Chocolate, Salted Caramel, Strawberry, Vanilla, Peanut Butter and Cookies & Cream.

and all-rounded nutrition label. There has been an increase in demand for high protein related products in Singapore. I hope WOAH! as a home-grown brand will provide another exciting alternative for Singaporeans to reach their protein quota.
Customers can consider WOAH! for dessert or as a meal supplement option. Importantly, as we start to become more selective and health-conscious, such food products provides options that are healthier, and goes beyond just lowering sugar and calories.
WOAH! is available at both Nutrition Depot locations at Raffles Place and Marina One and online at www.woahprotein.com. It is also available at selected NTUC FairPrice outlets at Orchard Grand Court, Rivervale Mall, Singapore Sports Hub, SingPost, Sun Plaza, Tampines Mall and FairPrice Online until 30 September 2019. Each pint (473g) retails at SGD 24 but senior citizens enjoy 30% off at both Nutrition Depot outlets and online at the WOAH! website.
The Active Age was offered a media sample by WOAH! for a review. We share our opinions across three areas – packaging, visual look of the product and taste.
Packaging: We enjoyed having an easy to understand label and description about the ice cream.
Visual: The sealed wrapper provided a sense of quality by keeping the ice cream “fresh” before consumption. Importantly, the look of the ice cream (both flavours) did not disappoint.
Taste: The chocolate was enjoyably bitter, and there’s no hint of a milk sugar taste as with some other chocolate ice cream products. The Salted Caramel was sweeter but not much more than the chocolate flavour. It was also slightly creamier. Both flavours are good standalone treats, but can also complement cones, biscuits or cake.
