Selfish Gene Café brings more menu options for the weekday lunch crowd and weekend foodies.

Tucked away at the edge of Tanjong Pagar Conservation Area is Selfish Gene Café, a F&B joint committed to serving ‘fresh, uncomplicated comfort food’. In fact Selfish Gene Café prides itself in its breakfast and lunch specials that not only appeal to the palate but also provide a sense of familiarity.

Chef Gene has introduced some new delectable homemade creations to the Café’s menu including his Homemade Yoghurt (S$6) and Mushroom Tartine (S$14). The Homemade Yoghurt is served with sumptuous summer berry compote and granola while the mouth-
watering Mushroom Tartine features thyme-scented sautéed mushrooms with homemade ricotta and multigrain bread. These two new additions to the Weekday Breakfast menu are a must-try for foodies looking for a quick bite in the day.

For those who favour a fresh and quick hot meal, look out for Chef Gene’s new additions to the café’s Daily Lunch Special menu. You can expect to find savoury dishes like the Roasted Atlantic Salmon Fillet with Dill-scented Potato and Homemade Slaw (S$16) and Pasta Alla Olio with Hickory Smoked Bacon Lardons, Fried Egg, Garlic, Chilli and Parsley (S$14).

While these dishes are crafted using fine-dining techniques, they play on the familiarity of simple foods, giving guests both an aesthetically pleasing yet homely dining experience. But of course, what is a café without coffee and desserts to go along? One thing unique about Selfish Gene Café’s cakes is that they are made from homemade ingredients. A good example is the new Orange Yoghurt Cake (S$4) available on the Weekend Menu, which is made of Chef Gene’s own homemade yoghurt and served with orange glaze and candied orange peel on the top. The fragrant orange flavour of the cake is enhanced by the sweetness of the candied orange peel topping and is perfect to go along with some coffee or tea. Also new to the menu is their signature Banana Cake (S$6) which is different from the typical banana cakes around as it is chiffon-based and served with banana, caramel, crumble and peanut butter sauce.
