SIFA 2016: Five Easy Pieces

By  |  0 Comments

Swiss director, Milo Rau makes his Asian premiere in Singapore with Five Easy Pieces, an emotionally powerful drama performed by children for an adult audience.

In collaboration with the Ghent-based art centre CAMPO, Rau centres Five Easy Pieces on Marc Dutroux, an infamous convicted murderer and paedophile. A masterful marriage of documentary and theatre, Rau casts a critical lens on childhood as a protected area, carefully shielded from reality’s dirty truths.

As part of the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) 2016, this performance will allow you to have a look at controversial themes through children’s eyes and understand yourself in the process. Famous for addressing socio-political conflicts in his documentary creations, Rau is indelibly stamped onto the world theatre.

Featuring seven young performers aged eight to 13, Five Easy Pieces employs all of Rau’s past approaches: the scenic form of re-enactments; the focus on social taboos and trauma, as in the ‘trials’; and the search for something universally human.

From 18 to 20 August, at 8pm, Five Easy Pieces will performed at the Victoria Theatre.

Tickets are starting at SGD 30, with 20 percent off for all students, NSFs and seniors. For more information, visit here.
