Sopra Cucina Unveils New Sardinian Menu

By  |  0 Comments

Savour some of the latest Italian dishes prepared with traditional recipes from Sardinia and Naples by Sopra Cucina in Singapore.

Located just off the main stretch of Orchard Road but away from the hustle, Sopra Cucina Italian Bar and Restaurant is a convenient dining spot to have a taste of Sardinian cuisine.

The restaurant’s newly revamped menu offers a selection of traditional foods – apart from the usual pastas and pizzas – that are common in families and homes back in Italy. Some highlights of the menu include a Sardinian version of the roasted suckling pig, a homemade Biscotto with pecorino cheese filling, and a classic Sardinian semonila pasta with rosemary pork sauce.

Here are some of the dishes we tried:

Biscotto di Pecorino 2

Biscotto di Pecorino, Pecorini Cheese stuffed in Pane Carosau and Drizzled with Honey (SGD 22++)

A popular favourite, this starter is perfect for those who love oozy melted cheese. The handmade biscotto is slightly charred on the edges for a crisp and light texture, and unveils warm, chewy pecorini cheese that oozes out with each bite. This dish is glazed with honey on the top and goes surprisingly well with the warm, savoury cheese filling. Great for sharing with friends, the dish is best jumped on and eaten upon serving before the cheese cools.

Porcheddu Sardo - Traditional Sardinian Roasted Suckling Pigresize

Porcheddu Sardo, Traditional Sardinian Roasted Suckling Pig (400 grams) with Mediterranean Herbs and Roasted Potato (SGD 48++)

The Porcheddu Sardo is definitely an interesting dish to find in an Italian restaurant. Unlike the Asian-style roasted suckling pig that we are familiar with, the Sardinian roasted suckling pig features a thin and crispy skin that is lightly seasoned with sea salt and Mediterranean herbs to give a lighter and more refreshing taste. Served with roasted potatoes on the side, the roasted meat is tender and juicy. This unique dish is definitely worth a try at Sopra Cucina.

Malloreddus alla Campidanese - Sardinian 'gnocchi' in pork and rosemary sauceresize

Malloreddus alla Campindanese, Traditional Sardinian Semonila Pasta with Rosemary Pork Sauce (SGD 25++)

Another dish featuring rosemary, the semonila pasta has been delicately shaped by hand into chewy, bite-sized gnocchi. The savoury Rosemary Pork sauce is fragrant and complements the gnocchi, providing the dish with a somewhat homely taste.

Penne Alla Siciliana

Penne alla Siciliana, Oven Baked Penne with Eggplant, Tomato Sauce and Mozzarella (SGD 26++)

The Penne alla Siciliana features penne pasta and tiny eggplant bits baked to perfection under a blanket of baked mozzarella. The serving is generous and is definitely great for sharing as well.

Pizza Sopra 2

Pizza Sopra, Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella, Parma Ham, Fresh Tomato, Arugula, Parmesan (SGD 28++, for the 9 inch pizza)

The hearty Pizza Sopra features a doughy crust layered with a tomato-based sauce and generous toppings of savoury parma ham, tomatoes and arugula on top. Each slice is further topped with thinly sliced parmesan cheese rectangles, adding a sharper taste to the dish. The combination of fresh and savoury ingredients makes for a well-rounded, delicious ‘standard’ pizza dish.

All ingredients at Sopra Cucina have been sourced to ensure that the taste of the dishes are kept as authentic as possible. On top of the new menu items, the restaurant continues to serve a range of paninis, bruschettas, desserts and cocktails. Sopra Cucina’s quiet location makes it a great dining venue for family gatherings or simply to catch up with friends over drinks.

Sopra Cucina Italian Bar & Restaurant is located at 10 Claymore Road, #01-02 Singapore 229540, just directly behind Palais Renaissance. The restaurant is opened from 5pm to 12am on Mondays and 11.30am to 12am, Tuesdays to Sundays.
