Don’t let emotions get out of hand. You can control your emotions by adopting wiser eating habits.

Healthy eating habits go hand in hand with valuing your health and wellness. This includes having the right outlook in life which leads to healthy eating choices.

Did you know that food can affect your mood? If you don’t want to get all bummed out or stressed every single time, here are some tips to help you out:

Choose Smart Carbs

Eating foods rich in bad carbohydrates isn’t good for the body as it causes you to feel more fatigued and stressed out while working out. It’s still important to consume the right kind of cards while on a diet including legumes, fruits, vegetables, grains and foods rich in fiber to keep you energised while hitting the gym.

Tryptophan – an amino acid found in carbohydrates – causes the brain to synthesise more serotonin, improving your mood through the day. This is why it’s important not to ditch carbohydrates in your diet—you just have to choose the right ones.

Don’t Skip Meals

As much as you want to skip meals and proceed to the next convenient meal time, this shouldn’t become a habit since it can make you binge eat more often. Skipping breakfast pushes you to eat foods high in bad cholesterol. If you want to get rid of your unhealthy cravings, eat on time without skipping meals during the day.

Eat Healthy and Balanced Breakfast

To jump start your day the right way, it’s better to have a balanced breakfast as it can improve your mood and give you more energy to get through the day. This includes incorporating lean protein, good whole-grain carbs, fiber and nutrients in your meal.

Watch Your Sugar

How much sugar do you have in your regular diet? According to research, people who are prone to binge eating are those who are addicted to foods rich in sugar. Apparently, sugar triggers the brain to get addicted to it, causing you to crave more in the long run.

If you really don’t want to be cranky and want to have a productive day ahead, switch to a healthy diet. Once on a diet you are satisfied with, measure your mood with a daily journal and make tweaks to the menu to determine how different foods affect you.
