Develop a healthy lifestyle within your comfort zone

Despite your busy schedule, take time to evaluate your living lifestyle once in a while. Make changes or integrate healthy living routines if you feel that your lifestyle is not treating your body right.

Switching to a healthy lifestyle is easy so long as you are motivated to do so. Keep your diet in check and complement it with regular exercises.

Here are some tips to help out achieve a healthier you:

Sleep early

Sleeping early is vital to your health as your body needs time to recover and recuperate in order to provide energy for you the next day. Avoid using your phone or computer till the late hours as your mind needs time to recognise that it’s your sleeping time.

Have at least 8 hours of sleep. This helps you to be more focused at work and acts as a great energy booster, especially when you’re stressed at work. With ample sleep, you will be more productive at work.

Eat a balanced meal

Don’t get used to ordering take-outs for your meals. Consume more home-cooked meals as they are definitely more healthy and fresh than fast food. Aim for a balanced meal that includes vegetables, fruits, carbohydrates and proteins.

Stay Hydrated

Hydrate your body by drinking sufficient amount of water daily. With the humid weather in Singapore, it is important to not become dehydrated. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to keep your body’s processes humming along.

Watch your sugar

If you do not keep a close watch on your eating habits, you might be consuming more sugar than before. Don’t take your blood sugar lightly as it can lead to diseases such as diabetes.

When drinking coffee, choose natural sweeteners instead of white sugar. Avoid sweet drinks such as sodas, juice concentrates or even energy drinks that are high in sugar and coloring. If you are motivated to live healthily, skip your usual coffee routine and replace it with alternatives like eating fresh fruit.

Minimise salt intake

Don’t eat too much food that are rich in salt. If possible, choose snacks that are low in salt.

Did you know that our meals contain 75% salt overall? Too much salt will increase your blood pressure, resulting in stroke, heart attack or even heart failure. According to World Health Organization, adults should only consume 5g of salt a day.

Exercise

Find ways to work out even if you’re stuck at home. Walk around the house or start doing your household chores so that you can stay active indoors.

If you are bounded by your office job, place a bottle of water in your pantry or a few tables away. This will motivate you to get up and walk, even if it’s a short distance.

Be it you’re old or young, start a healthy lifestyle now before it’s too late!
