SIFA 2016 (The O.P.E.N): Models Never Talk

By  |  0 Comments

Designed to give runway models a voice, Models Never Talk is a performance by Olivier Saillard, one of fashion’s premier curators and the Director of the Palais Galliera in Paris.

Designed by Olivier Saillard, the stage depicts the wings behind an haute couture catwalk, without the clothes. In a representation of how memories of fashion are transcendent over the actual materiality of clothes, hands are seen to buckle a vanished belt or lace up a corset that has faded away. The absence of clothes is replaced by words, where the very words forbidden during fashion shows act as the wardrobe.

Hear the words from seven retired models as they share a memory of how the structure of a piece of clothing she once donned had impacted her. The words spoken by the models replace nostalgic velvet or muslin, while the accompanying gestures serve as patterns and prints. These naked artifices will capture the movements of a model held fast in the gaze of a designer or photographer she once inspired.

This one-hour show on 7, 8 and 9 July will inspire and impress upon the audience the unspoken words of seven retired models. As part of The O.P.E.N. (the pre-festival to the Singapore International Festival of Arts), Models Never Talk will show at 8pm at 72-13.

Admission is free with the O.P.E.N Pass. Visit here for more information.
