Being addicted to sugar can be a difficult habit to break. However, get rid of your addiction now and reap sweet rewards in the future.

Keep in mind that you can still enjoy eating your favorite desserts as long as you eat them in moderation. Forget about having candy bars for snacks or eating cakes and doughnuts on a daily basis.

Sugar Rush

Do you know the reason why sweets are not good for the body? Not only it is loaded with calories, but they barely have nutrients in them. It may be satisfying eating sweet treats, but your body thinks otherwise, especially if you’re on a diet.

Having a diet rich in sugar is most likely linked to having type 2 diabetes, low good cholesterol levels and heart disease. At the same time, too much sweets can trigger migraines, depression, poor eyesight and more.

Remember that the sugar rush will only last you for a while and after the “sugar crash”, you can expect to feel tired and lethargic.

Kicking the Habit

Getting rid of your sugar habit takes a lot of discipline and effort on your part. Here are some tips to help you out:

You have to be aware of what’s in your fridge and pantry to determine what you need to remove from your home. This may require you to read food labels and identify the added sugar in your food items. It may be difficult at first, but you’ll eventually get the hang of it.

  1. Restock your Pantry

Now that you have gotten rid of the sweet treats, replace them with healthier alternatives. You can always buy whole grain bread and cereals instead of the usual white bread and sugar coated cereal.

Refrain from buying sweetened yogurt and choose Greek and unsweetened instead. The same thing applies when it comes to quenching your thirst. Forget about buying cans of sodas—drink more water instead or have them infused with fresh fruits for a healthier option.

  1. Put your Plan into Action

This might be the most difficult phase in facing your sugar addiction. Now that you have all the healthy foods your kitchen, everything boils down to how you’re going to react.

Are you ready to lessen sugar in your diet? How about eating more healthy foods to keep your mind off your sugar cravings? This is the time where you have to plan your meals, control your cravings and stick with it until it becomes a healthy habit.

Though it may not be easy at first, it will soon become a part of your daily lifestyle if you allow it to. You should now allow yourself to make excuses just to have your daily sugar fix. You can always eat fruits as alternative whenever you crave for something sweet.

Similarly, eating out should not be a reason to give in to your sweet cravings.

  1. Be Consistent

Once you have developed the habit of eating less sugar, you would be surprised how much your eating choices have changed. When this happens, don’t allow yourself to let your guard down.

Remember that eating sweets is acceptable as long as you eat it in moderation. Too much is never a good thing, especially when it’s your health we’re talking about.
