Achieve a happier lifestyle through a healthy diet

A healthy eating plan is crucial in motivating yourself to stick to a healthy diet. However, clean eating is more than just consuming fruits and vegetables daily.

Here are some tips on how you can improve on your healthy eating habits:

Consume good fats

Fats are an essential part of our diet and beneficial to our health. However, you should take in different types of fats to have an overall balance when practicing healthy eating.

For adults, you should aim to get 20-35 percent of calories from good fats such as polyunsaturated fats.

Polyunsaturated fats help to lower cholesterol levels, and eventually minimises your risk to several cardiovascular diseases. Nuts and seeds are rich in polyunsaturated fat, including other nutrients such as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids which cannot be produced within the body.

Unsaturated fats are also good fats for the body. Despite being trans-fat in its solid state, unsaturated fats are thought to be healthy for the body during its liquid state at room temperature. Regular consumption helps to reduce the risk of heart disease and lower cholesterol levels. Always look out for such fats in food products and add them into your diet.

However, exclude those products that contain trans-fat and saturated fats. Such fats are not good for the body as they increase your cholesterol levels after a period of time. Trans fats are usually found in fried or processed foods.

Take vitamins

Not only do vitamins develop and enhance your body growth, it can also help improve other areas such as your metabolism, immunity and digestion.

Your body relies on vitamins for its lack of nutrients and are necessary for both body growth and function.

Visit a physician if you’re unsure of the types of vitamins to consume.

Clean eating plan

Go for organic food products if you feel like making alternative changes to your diet. Be prepared to plan your own meals as food found outside tend to be high in fats, sodium, sugar or oil.

Eat more vegetables on a daily basis and substitute your unhealthy snacks such as potato chips with fruits. Always look for a healthier alternative when ordering meals or doing your grocery shopping.

Healthy eating habits are hard to maintain but give yourself time for your body to adjust to its changes. Be sure to stick to your diet so that efforts will not be wasted.
