Salad (and wrap) meals are one way to keep to the 500 or 600 calorie limit, if you are trying out the 5:2 diet as well!

Healthy eating no matter which part of Singapore you are in – is this even possible? Yes it is! Salad bars have been sprouting all over the island, making it easier for us to indulge in some healthy eating wherever we are.

The Active Age team has gone incognito to find six of the yummiest for you to try out.

Sumo Salad

Location: Vivocity, Holland Village MRT

The only salad bar to have an outlet situated conveniently in an MRT station, Sumo Salad hails from Australia and has also made its way to Brazil, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates. Its healthy selection in Singapore includes fast deli salads that are great for a quick pack-and-go with prices starting from $6.95. Our favourites include Pumpkin & Cous Cous, Roasted Pumpkin & Chickpea and Super Green. There is also Made-to-Order salads and wraps. Fussier eaters will find the Design-Your-Own option most attractive.

Munch Saladsmith

Locations: Westgate, StarVista, Paya Lebar Square, One@Kentridge, Funan Digitalife Mall, Orchard Gateway, 112 Robinson, One Raffles Place, Marina Bay Financial Centre

One of the largest salad chains in Singapore, Munch can even be found in the cosy East of the island!  Besides a salad menu (or lack of) that allows complete personalisation, Munch also specialises in sandwiches, bagels, soups, rosti and omelettes.  Everything on the menu can be ordered conveniently using the order form on their website, and can be picked up or delivered. If you are having a get-together, then Munch’s party platters would be a convenient choice.

Salad Stop

Locations: Fusionpolis, Great World City, Novena Square, PasarBella, Takashimaya, One George Street, Capital Tower, Chevron House, CityLink Mall

This must be one of the most recognisable salad bars, with several outlets located in the financial district of Singapore. Salad Stop’s menu is simple and no-fuss, focusing mostly on (guess what) salads and wraps. The names of the salads and wraps, however, are lots of fun with a tinge of local flavours. Think of examples such as Oh Crab Lah!, Iron ‘Wo’ Man, Omega 3 Baby, Go Geisha and Hail Ceasar. There is also a selection of quick bites for busy individuals, such as packed sandwiches and salads, yoghurt and muesli, Figue Bar, and Raspberry Quinoa Cookie.

Salads & Wraps

Locations: Icon Village, Cecil Court, The Centrepoint

As its name suggests, this salad bar focuses purely on salads and wraps. Not only can one create a salad with six ingredients for $7, one can design a wrap, also with six ingredients, for $7.50 onwards, with a choice of plain, wholewheat, spinach or tomato tortillas. Prefer not to stress over what ingredients to include in your salad or wrap? Go for one of the specialty choices, such as Siam Shrimp Salad, Turkey Waldorf Salad, Mexican Beef Wrap or Turkey Spinach Wrap. Salad & Wraps offers free delivery for orders above $60, to areas around the Icon Village and Cecil Court outlets. For delivery to other areas, additional charges apply.

The Salad Corner

Location: Golden Shoe Complex, Amoy Street

There is only one choice of salads here – design your own. From just $4.90, one can get a basic salad with five different toppings and a salad dressing on the menu. More toppings can be added at $0.50 each for basic toppings like broccoli, egg and boiled potatoes, or $1 for premium toppings like tuna, crab stick, BBQ chicken and ham cubes. Must be one of the most affordable salads on the island.

Saladworks

Locations: JEM, Clifford Centre

The only salad chain with an outlet all the way to the west, US-founded Saladworks serves salad, sandwiches and wraps. Besides the option of creating one’s own salad or wrap from over 50 ingredients at $11.80 for a salad and $9.90 for a wrap, all of Saladworks’ signature salads such as Mandarin Chicken Salad and Turkey Club Salad can be made into wraps. Grilled steak, salmon or chicken can also be added for that added protein boost. For a more substantial meal, one can opt for the panini sandwiches, such as Beef Carver Sandwich or Turkey Melt Sandwich. Leave space for dessert though. Saladworks serves delectable choc fudge cake and orange carrot cake. Delivery is available with a minimum order of $50. Orders above $100 can be delivered free to a single location.
